Well, if you happened to read my post from yesterday, you know that I was overwhelmed by all my new catalog goodies and having a difficult time deciding where to start! I found lots of ideas on the internet, then tried to narrow down my focus by trying a card sketch challenge.
I started with the current Mojo350 Monday Card Sketch for my card design.
Then, I selected the lovely sentiment from the Hello There hostess stamp set for my focal point.
Next, I looked for some of my new designer papers to use for the offset panels on the card sketch. I thought the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack floral patterns went beautifully with the cursive font.
After those elements were chosen, my two cool cards came together pretty quickly!
I couldn't decide whether to go So Saffron or Pistachio Pudding, so I did both. That's why I like to do Two Cool cards…it's all because I'm so indecisive! LOL!
Background Basics—I stamped the 4" x 5-1/4" panel with the Hardwood background stamp in its coordinating ink color for a backyard fence-like foundation.
The All Abloom DSP panels are cut to 1-1/2" x 3-1/2". I made sure to select patterns that included Daffodil Delight, Pistachio Pudding, Mossy Meadow and Strawberry Slush.
Before adhering the panel to the Whisper White card front, I wrapped some Mossy Meadow Stitched Satin Ribbon around the middle to represent the horizontal element in the sketch.
Hello Medallion—The Hello There sentiment was stamped in Mossy Meadow onto Whisper White, then die-cut with the 5th smallest circle from the Circles Collection Framelits.
I layered the circle onto a Window Frame Framelit die-cut in Strawberry Slush. If you look closely, you'll see that I also used the Festive Paper Piercing templates to add some pierced details around the border.
Bitty Blossoms—I punched out a few flowers from Daffodil Delight card stock using the new flower from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and another from the Boho Blossoms Punch. For some dimension, I curved the petals around the point of my Bone Folder. Flowers are attached with Glue Dots.
Colored Jewels—I added some Rhinestone Jewels to the flower centers, colored with the Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities Marker in the medium shade. They are a teensie bit too purple for me, but once these markers become available in the next few weeks, you'll be able to purchase the Melon Mambo color markers and those will be a closer match to the pink of Strawberry Slush. Good enough for now, though!
I was having so much fun making these, that I had to try out some other paper combinations! Here's one with a smaller All Abloom print.
A So Saffron version with the circle blooms paper.
I ended up with a whole set of matching cards! This is exactly the reason why I LOVE the little 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" Designer Paper Stacks! All the matching patterns make it easy to create a entire ensemble of coordinating cards! Pretty, pretty, pretty! And, such a great gift idea!
Conclusion—Sketches Are Fun! I have to say that I really enjoyed trying a card sketch challenge for the first time! It got me out of my comfort zone a bit and encouraged me to use stamps, papers and colors that I might not have chosen on my own. It was also a great way to get started, because it narrowed down my choices of what images and embellishments would work with the suggested layout. Bottom line, it was the perfect way for me to get out of my stamping paralysis and give me some creative momentum!
