Perfection pocket card - two cool

One of my favorite things to do with this fun Sheer Perfection Vellum paper is color in the patterns with Stampin' Write Markers, but these cards also include a cool embossing technique for extra texture on the flowers!  I can't wait for my class to try it!  I know they are going to love this one!

CASEd from Karen Squires at Stampin' By The Bay.

Pocket Card Basics—I love the unique style of this pocket card and it's so easy to make!  I started with a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of Lost Lagoon card stock and scored it at the 5-1/2" mark, as well as at the 1-1/4" mark on one end.  I folded it in half and then folded the 1-1/4" flap back.  I didn't use any adhesive to secure this card, I just tied the Blackberry Bliss Stitched Satin Ribbon around the flap and tied it in a double-knot to keep it closed.

Dry Embossing Vellum—To decorate the front, I used a highlight coloring technique on a 4-1/4" x 2" piece of the floral vellum.  Before coloring with markers, I gave each of the flower and leaf images a raised, textured look by dry embossing it.  I simply turnen the vellum over, laid it on a Piercing Mat and used a Stylus Tool to very gently "color" in the images.  I went in tiny circles over each flower until it was filled in. Pressing on the vellum this way turns it a white color and raises it on the other side.

TIP: You can purchase the Stylus Tool separately, or use the one that comes with your Simply Scored board.

Here is what it looks like when you "color" over the back of the images.  Don't forget to do the leaves, too!  TIP: The vellum is delicate, so you use a light touch when dry embossing or you may accidentally tear it.

Coloring The Vellum—After all the flowers and leaves are colored with the Stylus, then use Stampin' Write Markers to fill in the areas on the back with color.  I used Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon for the flowers and Wild Wasabi for the leaves.

The above photo has some dramatic lighting to give you a better idea of the raised effect you get with the dry embossing.  It truly is Too Cool!

Fluttering Focal Point—I punched a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle in Blackberry Bliss and topped it with a Whisper White 1-3/4" Circle to create a medallion for my butterfly.  It's attached with Dimensionals.  I stamped the Nature's Perfection (no longer available) butterfly in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, then punched it with the Elegant Butterfly Punch.  It's adhered with two Glue Dots, then topped with a Pearl Jewel.

Pocket Greetings—The pocket holds a pull-out card made with a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of Whisper White layered on a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Blackberry Bliss.  The corners are all rounded with the Corner Rounder Punch.  I stamped the top with a Petite Pairs greeting in Blackberry Bliss…

…then I stamped the second part of the greeting on the inside, along with a flower from the Nature's Perfection stamp set in Lost Lagoon.

Perfection pocket card - slush

Two Cool—I changed up the color combination for my second card using Strawberry Slush for the card base and Crisp Cantaloupe for the accents.

The flowers were colored with Strawberry Slush & Crisp Cantaloupe markers, too!

Perfection pocket card - slush 2

I wrapped the fold-down flap with Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker's Twine to secure the card closed.

And, I tried a different Petite Pairs greeting.
