Hi Stamping Friends!

I had a fantastic time stamping with my "Last Thursdays" class last night…just a little early because of the holiday.  Today, I'm featuring one of my favorite cards that we created, and it's perfect timing since we are expecting snowflakes for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

I'll take this opportunity to say, "Happy Thanksgiving" to everyone who celebrates it, since I'll be taking the day off of blogging tomorrow.  May you all enjoy a happy and safe holiday with the ones you love!  I'm so thankful that I'm able to do something that I love to do every day, and I'm thankful for all of my stamping friends, all over the world, who are along with me on this creative adventure!  Blessings to everyone!

Letterpress navy snowflake - two cool

This snowy Letterpress Winter card was originally created by my team member Darla Eigenschink, who was my very first recruit back in 2006!  Her 8 year anniversary is actually coming up on Friday, November 28—congratulations, Darla!  I'm so blessed to have her on my Too Cool team and happy to call her one of my friends!

Background Basics—The Smoky Slate card base is topped with a 2" x 4" piece of All Is Calm Designer Series Paper on one side and a 3-1/4" x 4" piece of Night of Navy card stock on the other.  A 1/2" x 4" strip of Silver Foil covers where the two papers meet.

Die-Cutting The Snowflake—I used the Snowflake Card Thinlit dies to create the snowflake focal point.  This thinlit die was designed to make a flip card with the snowflake as the flip, like the one on this project…

To cut the full snowflake, I ran a piece of 4" x 4" Whisper White through to partially cut the snowflake on the first pass through the Big Shot.  Then, I turned the piece 90°, lined up the cut sides with the thinlit die edges, and ran it through again to finish cutting the remaining two sides.  It takes a little extra time, but works great!

Snowflake Stamping—The Letterpress Winter snowflake photopolymer stamp is easy to line up over the die-cut since it is clear!  I stamped it in Night of Navy ink.

Snowflake Layers—I used the medium size snowflake die from the same Snowflake Card Thinlit set to cut the second layer from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

TIP For Die-Cutting: I found the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper a little more difficult to cut through for some reason.  To help the paper release from the thinlit, I used a piece of wax paper between the die and the paper, and I added a piece of card stock as a shim on top of the cutting pad.  I also ran it through once, backed it up, ran it through again and backed it up again for a total of 4 passes through the Big Shot.  Not sure why this paper was more difficult to cut than others, but these extra steps did the trick and they popped out without tearing.

I used the smallest snowflake die with Silver Foil, along with a piece of wax paper, for the top layer.  I didn't need a shim or to run it through multiple times for this paper.

All layers are adhered with Glue Dots, which is the only adhesive that works well on the Glimmer Paper's textured surface.

Snowflake Bling—I added a few Frosted Sequins Snowflakes to the Night of Navy side and topped them with small silver sequins for extra sparkle.  I adhered a couple more silver sequins on the DSP, too.

Glimmer Sentiment—The sentiment is also die-cut with word dies from the Snowflake Card Thinlit set.  I used the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper again, so I recommend using the tips I shared above for a better paper release.  It's adhered with tiny dabs of Multipurpose Glue.

My second card uses the same elements on a vertical card.

I absolutely adore the "Brrr" word on this card.  It was the embellishment that made me want to recreate Darla's Too Cool card in the first place!  Love it!
