Hi Stamping Friends!

Have you had a chance to play with the Word Bubbles Framelits yet?  Oh my gosh, they are so much fun, with or without being paired up with the Just Sayin' stamp set

I was totally inspired by a recent post I saw on StampinUp.com by concept artist Melodie Hyde.  She had some fantastic ideas for using the framelits in some very cool & unique ways!

Too Cool Techniques!  As her photo above shows (click to enlarge), Melodie used the Word Bubble Framelits:

  • To cut out bubble-shaped frames.
  • As a mask for a word bubble background.
  • As a stamp to apply VersaMark for an embossed resist technique.
  • To create a texture embossed word bubble element.
  • To make altered word bubble shapes.

Learn How!  Be sure to check out Melodie's blog post, because she explains exactly how she did each of the techniques, along with up-close photos!

My favorite technique that she shared was to make altered bubble shapes, so I tried it out for one of my "Last Thursdays" cards using another design by Melody!  I can't wait to see how the ladies like this technique at our class tonight!

Focal Point Foundation—I used a 2-3/4" x 3-3/4" piece of the Sale-A-Bration Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper for the foundation of the focal point, matted on a 3" x 4" piece of Smoky Slate card stock.  It's adhered directly to a Coastal Cabana card base.

Altered Word Bubble—I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock about 3-1/2" long and just a hair shorter than 2-3/4" wide.  To die-cut the new shape, you need your card stock to be able to thread through the middle of the framelit, and the Word Bubble I used was about 2-3/4" wide exactly.  I popped up the die-cut shape with Dimensionals.

How-To Cut The Bubble—I'm borrowing Melodie's photo to show you exactly how she positioned the framelit to make the cuts.  Notice that only the part you want cut is under the cutting edge, the rest of the card stock goes through the frame and over the top of the framelit, so it won't be cut.  Do one side, then the other.

TIP: If you lay your top cutting plate over the entire framelit while you do this, you will likely have an embossed indentation in your card stock where it was laying over the framelit edge.  To avoid this, simply position your top cutting plate over ONLY the part of the framelit you are cutting.  In other words, the edge of your top cutting plate should fall in the middle of the word bubble.

Delightful Banners—The cute banners add colorfully festive accents to the top of the bubble.  I use the Sale-A-Bration Banner Blast stamp set, with the banners stamped in Summer Starfruit, Pool Party, and Crisp Cantaloupe, and punched them with the Sale-A-Bration Banner Punch.  The heart is also in Crisp Cantaloupe, hand-cut and adhered with SNAIL.

Sentiment—The Yippee-Skippee phrase, from the set of the same name, is perfect for the informality of the Word Bubbles, don't you think?  I stamped it in Smoky Slate and added a Rhinestone Jewel asterisk.

The focal point was the perfect size to use on a horizontal card.  I used a different greeting from the Yippee-Skippee set.

The Crisp Cantaloupe Twine is from the Sale-A-Bration Sweet Sorbet Accessories Pack.  Any of the three colors of twine in that pack—Crisp Cantaloupe, Pool Party or Summer Starfruit—would look great with this card!

I think I'm gonna have to make some extras of this one, they are just so fun to make!
