Dragonfly Dreams Peek-a-Boo Gate-Fold Cards

The Dragonfly Dreams stamp set works perfectly for the Peek-a-Boo Gate-Fold style because of the short, one-line sentiments. They fit in that window just right! I designed a solid color background with a subtle texture to keep the focus on the beautiful shimmery dragonfly!

Background Basics—I started with a 5-1/2" x 7-3/4" Bermuda Bay card base. To create the gate fold, I used the Simply Scored tool to add score lines along the 7-3/4" side at the 1-3/4" and 6" marks. I embossed two 5-1/4" x 1-1/2" pieces of Bermuda Bay card stock with the Petal Burst Textured Impressions Folder and adhered them onto the front gate panels with SNAIL adhesive.

Peek-a-Boo Sentiment—I positioned a 5-1/4" x 4" piece of Whisper White on the inside of the card, not adhering it yet, just in case I made a stamping mistake…not that that would ever happen! LOL! I inked up one of the Dragonfly Dreams sentiments in Memento Black Ink, then with the panels closed, I carefully stamped the sentiment in the window space. Adhere that to the inside of the card.

Belly Band—I cut a 10" x 1" strip of Basic Black for the belly band. I started one end in the middle of the window then wrapped it around the card without scoring. You want it to be tight, but not so tight that you can't slip the band off of the card easily. I secured the ends with Fast Fuse. I added a Mint Macaron label, die cut with the Lots of Labels Framelits, on top of the belly band seam with Dimensionals.

Delightful Dragonfly—I stamped the dragonfly in Memento Black ink onto Whisper White card stock then colored the wings with Bermuda Bay and Mint Macaron markers. Next, I die cut it with the Detailed Dragonfly Framelits. TIP: Keeping that tail straight can be tricky, and if it's not straight, it won't line up correctly on the die-cut. Rather than positioning the stamp onto the block by hand, I like to lay the stamp upside-down on the table to encourage it to lay naturally, then add the block on the top of it.

Shimmer Wings—Don't forget to add some Wink of Stella Clear on those wings for an awesome iridescent look! Wow! You'll receive the Wink of Stella brush in your class kit! Add one Rhinestone Jewel on the body for more sparkle!

Metallic Thread Accents—Silver Metallic Thread also comes in your class kit, and it really adds a nice texture behind the focal point. To adhere it, I started by adding some SNAIL adhesive to the back of the dragonfly die-cut. Then, I wrapped the thread around my fingers, slightly spread apart, about 6 times. Twist the loops into a "figure 8" and press the center onto the sticky back of the dragonfly. That will hold the thread in place allowing you to fluff out the loops to make them look pretty. Add some Dimensionals to secure the threads in place and pop the dragonfly up on the label. So cool!
