Holiday Collection Framelits Ribbon Windows

Save your ribbon scraps!  Today's project idea is a fantastic way to use those extra bits and pieces of ribbon that are too short to tie, but too long to throw away!

CASEd from Dawn Olchefske at DO Stamping

This project uses the Holiday Collection Framelits to create window shapes in the card front, then each of the windows is filled with ribbon for a fun and touchable card!  The tree is Gumball Green Stitched Satin Ribbon (get it FREE with your $40 order during the Back To Spool promotion!), the candy cane alternates Whisper White and Real Red Stitched Grosgrain Ribbons, and the gingerbread man is Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon.

Make Your Own Framelit Ribbon Windows

This awesome card idea came from Dawn Olchefske, and she has a wonderful Framelit Ribbon Card tutorial on her blog showing how to make this card.  Here are the basics:

  • Start with a Whisper White card stock base.
  • Die-cut the Holiday Collection shapes out of 5-1/4" x 4" Crumb Cake card stock.  Line them up across the top part of the card, so you have room for twine at the bottom.

  • Lay your die-cut card stock on your card front and use it as a stencil to trace each of the framelit windows.

Ribbon - stencil 2

You don't have to make it a pretty tracing, although I did a lovely job on my tracing, don'tcha think?!

Ribbon window - adhesive

  • Cut a 4-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets and apply it over the top of the penciled in shapes.

Ribbon window - ribbon gingerbread

  • Add small strips of ribbon over the top of your shapes, lining them up side-by-side.

Ribbon window - ribbon tree cane

  • Alternate red and white ribbon on the candy cane.  Cover all images completely.
  • Decorate your die-cut window piece, then adhere on the card with LOTS of Dimensionals.

I decorated my die-cut piece by running it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder.

I also wrapped the piece with Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine and added a Real Red Teeny Tiny Wishes sentiment that was punched with the Jewelry Tag Punch.  Another Gumball Green tag is layered underneath.
