The Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper from the Sale-A-Bration flyer is hands-down one of my favorites to work with right now! I love all of the unique colors, and the designs coordinate so nicely!
So, when I saw Dawn Olchefske create a card at Leadership using the Herringbone technique, I knew I had to try it, too!

I think the Everyday Enchantment papers create beautiful patchwork design backgrounds for these Two Cool cards!
But the best part about it, is that it gives new life to all of those skinny scraps of decorative that I usually throw away. Nothing gets wasted!
Herringbone Technique Pictorial
It takes a little time, but the process is surprisingly easy, and I found it quite fun and even relaxing!
The easiest way to adhere the pieces is to use the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. Cut a piece slightly larger than your card stock. Peel the backing off and lay your card stock on top of the sticky part. Trim the edges.
Peel off the backing on the other side to reveal the sticky surface on your card stock.
My scrap pieces were usually between 1/4" and 3/8", but you can use scrap pieces of any width. Begin with a long piece going diagonally across. Then, using different patterns, add a perpendicular strip coming off each side of the first piece.
Use the same patterns to create a "V" shape on each side of the long piece.
Continue adding Vs of paper to each side.
For a true herringbone look, start your V strips on the same side each time.
In the first photo, you'll see that the strips are stair-stepped…the tops of the strips are never flush with the tops of another strip.
The second photo shows strips lined up flush at the tops. This is a more random, but equally interesting, pattern.
There really is no wrong way…it all turns out looking great!
Continue adding more Vs…
Once you've added the final tiny pieces, it should look like this.
Turn your card stock over and trim away all of the excess.
Your final piece! Lovely!
I had so much fun that I made Two more Cool cards! On the first one, I tried to stick mainly to greens and blues for the backgound. For both of them, I used a more random (non-stair-stepped) pattern and did not use matching papers on the Vs. See…it still looks fabulous! No way to screw it up!
Other Card Details: The focal point base is created with the second to smallest Label Framelit, then I added a Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch accent created with the image from the Fresh Vintage set. You can learn how to punch it out on this post.
Coordinating ribbons and brads are from the Everyday Enchantment Ribbon & Brad Pack…and all of these are part of the Hostess Bundle which you can receive for FREE with a $400 Workshop. See the Sale-A-Bration promotion for details.
Sentiments are from Apothecary Art and Loving Thoughts stamp sets.
