Humming Along Bokeh Dots Cards

When I'm looking for a quick & elegant card, I love going with a simple black & white with a color of choice. It's a classic look; like a little black dress! I designed this card for my Kickoff Party and I needed it to be quick, so that meant no coloring. No problem! I simply pulled out my cool Bokeh Dots stamp set to create a pretty background and make the focal point pop!

Background Basics—I began by adhering a 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" strip of paper from the Botanical Butterflies Designer Series Paper to a Mint Macaron card base. Did you notice that the paper pack has colorful butterflies & floral patterns on the front sides and versatile black & white patterns & butterflies on the back sides? I'm loving this DSP so much! Bokeh Flower—I stamped the Bokeh Dots color block image in Mint Macaron ink onto a 3" x 4-3/4" piece of Whisper White, about 1/2" from the top. Next, I stamped the Humming Along flower image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink over the top of the color block, allowing parts of the flower image to "break out" of the box edges. The Bokeh Dots images are Dis-INK-tive stamps, giving you an ultra-detailed image. TIP: If you're having trouble with getting a clear image, use a spoon or a dedicated Bone Folder (it will stain) to push some of the ink to the edges of the ink pad. That will give you a little less ink to transfer to the image. Sometimes the pads have just a little too much ink for these intricate stamps.

Sweet Shimmer—To give the flower a little pizzazz, I brushed on some Wink of Stella clear shimmer. Look closely and you can see that I covered the entire flower, stem and leaf. It gives just enough sparkle without looking too gawdy.

Sweet Sentiment—I finished by adding a lovely Humming Along birthday greeting at the bottom in Memento Black. The size of this particular greeting has turned out to be perfect for a lot of cards I've been designing lately and I really like the mix of fonts. I mounted the stamped layer onto a 3-1/4" x 5" piece of Basic Black and popped it up onto the card front with Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches—I added a couple of Mint Macaron Artisan Pearls to the bottom of the color block, too.

Two Cool—My second version features a different pattern from the Botanical Butterflies DSP on a Melon Mambo card base.

I changed the bokeh image to the matching Melon Mambo color and added the Rich Razzleberry pearls from the Artisan Pearls pack. Isn't it awesome that the pearls in that pack can coordinate with several different colors? They are some of my favorite embellishments ever! This makes a great thank you, get well or sympathy card!
