Just For You Watercolored Cards

The big, bold Botanicals For You stamp makes an awesome focal point for cards! I dressed it up here by using heat embossing and watercoloring for a fantastic emboss resist technique!

Background Basics—I started with a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Watercolor Paper, then punch the upper right corner with the Curvy Corner Trio Punch for a cute detail. The card base is Hello Honey.

Embossed Sentiment—I stamped the Botanicals For You sentiment in VersaMark Ink, then sprinkled on Gold Embossing Powder and heated it with the Heat Tool until glossy & smooth. Because of the texture of the watercolor paper, the embossing may not be as crisp & filled in as it might be on smooth Whisper White paper, but I think the "pitted" look of the letters adds to the charm!

Watercolor Resist—Next, I used an Aqua Painter to paint on the colors, starting with the lightest color, Hello Honey, then adding Calypso Coral and Melon Mambo.

TIP #1: Keep the brush tip wet, but not dripping, while you're applying and blending the colors. A "too dry" brush will lay down too much dark color that will be hard to smooth out. You can always add more ink later if the color seems too light.

TIP #2: Keep the brush moving back & forth without stopping. If you hesitate in one place too long, you'll have too much color in that spot.

TIP #3: Work lighter to darker with the color blends and wipe your brush clean on scrap paper between colors.

Since the Watercolor Paper will tend to warp a little as it dries, I recommend adhering that layer to the card base with Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Bitty Vellum Blooms—I loved the little flowers from Janet's card that I featured a few days ago, so I tried them on this card. I punched three flowers from Vellum Card Stock with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and adhered them around the words with Glue Dots. I added Pearl Jewels to the centers, then bent the petals a little for dimension.

Two Cool—My second version highlights a bluesy blend of colors!

The Blues—I started this one with Silver Embossing Powder on the greeting, then I painted on Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay & Island Indigo inks. The blossoms are accented with Rhinestones this time. The watercolored layer is adhered to an Island Indigo card base. I'm always partial to blues & teals, so this one is my favorite!
