Apothecary Accents Masking With Piercing Essentials

Apothecary - two cool

Simple, subtle and elegant!  That's the theme for today's Two Cool cards!  They feature a different way to use the Apothecary Accents Framelits, plus they highlight the beautiful detailing you can achieve with the Paper Piecing Essentials system.

Oh, the photos don't do these cards justice!  I started by creating a mask from one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits dies.

Apothecary - mask 1

I temporarily tacked that mask down with Dotto onto my Whisper White card stock, then sprayed some of my Crumb Cake Shimmer Mist Spritz over the entire window.  The spritz is made up of rubbing alcohol, Champagne Shimmer Mist Paint and Crumb Cake Refill Ink in a Stampin' Spritzer.

TIP: I used the new two-temperature Heat Tool on the low setting to help speed up the drying!

Once, the spritzed area was dry, I stamped the foliage silhouette from Just Believe in Basic Black on top.  TIP: Because the Shimmer Mist Paint resists the ink, the image is lighter and less crisp than if you stamped on a background that was only ink.  Also, because some of the ink is being resisted, it may tend to smear more easily, too.  Be careful not to smudge up your card front…been there, done that…learn from my mistake!

The sentiment is from Petite Pairs and is double-punched from the Decorative Label Punch for a smaller label shape.

I used the Paper Piercing Essentials templates to perfectly detail along the inside edge of the Apothecary Accent shape.  I LOVE this detail, and it's so easy to add with the templates!

For the second card, I pierced just outside the shape!  The templates have holes for both inside and outside all of your favorite shapes—Too Cool!

I used a lighter touch on the spritzing for the second card, which gave it a more textured (ie: splotchy) background.

I kept the Apothecary Accents mask on the card front when stamping the leaves around the perimeter.  But, see how the leaves are poking out of the top of the mask?

I stamped through the window for that…over the mask at the bottom, and under the mask at the top.

Here is a close-up of the shimmery background.  I know it looks blurry, but it's really super sparkly and pretty!
