Autumn Harvest: Wood & Watercolor

I love this card that was created by Michelle Hoover, one of my Too Cool Demo Team members, so I had to share!

I love the watercolor look she achieved with the Autumn Harvest stamp set!  So beautiful!  My favorite part is that she stamped and watercolored on a rarely-used and almost-forgotten stamping item: Wood Sheets

Masking & Watercoloring

Michelle was using this card in her workshops, so she was featuring several cool techniques, the first of which is masking.  In fact, it looks like she did A LOT of masking!

To create this still-life scene, she started by stamping the center leaf with Staz-On Ink (permanent ink works best when watercoloring).  She cut out a leaf mask to cover that image, then stamped two more leaves.  Masking those leaves, she stamped the two pumpkins.  Masking the two pumpkins, she added the leaf under the pumpkin and a gourd.  Masking the gourd, she stamped another gourd.

Whew!  That's a lot of masks she cut out!  But remember, you can re-use the masks again and again.  TIP: I stamp images on a Post-It, then cut them out, so they have sticky on the back.  You could also use any type of temporary, repositionable adhesive, like Dotto. I keep all my masks until they fall apart, storing them inside my stamp case.

To color the images, she used Aqua Painters and Classic Ink from the lids of the ink pad (squeeze the pad to create your palette of color).  Because of the natural, porous surface of the wood, the colors blend easily and you can get a very nice watercolor effect!  I'm guessing the ink colors include So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, and Pear Pizzazz.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Big Shot Cutting & Embossing

Michelle also highlighted the versatility of the Big Shot in this project!  The Wood Sheets, which are natural wood mounted on heavy white card stock, are die-cut easily with the Top Note Bigz Die, then trimmed with scissors to mount on another Top Note in Basic Black to really make the artwork pop!

The Finial Press Impressions Folder was used with the Big Shot on Pear Pizzazz card stock for a lovely textured background.  And, before mounting the card front onto Pumpkin Pie card stock, it was wrapped with extra-wide, 1-1/4" Black Striped Grosgrain Ribbon

Michelle, I simply adore this card!  I'm sure that your workshop attendees had a blast making it!  Thanks so much for allowing me to share it on my blog.
