I keep meaning to show a few more projects from the Last Chance Retired Stamp List, while there is still time. But, I keep getting distracted by my exciting new catalog products that I can't wait to show you!
So, in the interest of "Angie-can't-keep-surprises-a-secret," I caved and created a sneak peak of a new Hostess Level 1 stamp set called Because I Care.
The first card is mine and the second was the card I CASEd, created by ponygirl40 on Splitcoast Stampers. I wanted to show them side-by-side, because my poor, pitiful, photo editing program has next-to-zero control over color adjustment…and her card definitely shows the truer colors…
And, what colors might these be?! New colors, bay-bee! The lighter blue is new core color Marina Mist (a cross between Brocade Blue and Tempting Turquoise), the dark purple is new In Color Concord Crush (darker and bluer than Elegant Eggplant), and the green is new In Color Pear Pizzazz (a combination of Certainly Celery and retired Kiwi Kiss). Yes, both examples use these same colors…like I said, hers is much closer to virtual reality.
You can find details for her card at her post. Here is how I created mine…
Brayered Impressions Folder Background
I've been playing around with a fun new technique where you brayer ink directly onto an Impressions Folder, in this case the Square Lattice style. I inked the "debossed" side with Marina Mist, then ran the card front, sandwiched inside the folder, through the Big Shot. The ink really brings out the depth and dimension of the texture…Too Cool!
Hydrangea Coloring
I used ponygirl40's basic instructions for coloring the flower. First, I colored the entire flower with Bashful Blue marker, and the leaf with Pear Pizzazz. Then, I laid down color onto the lid of a stamp case with my new Concord and Marina markers, and picked up the color with a Blender Pen to shade the flowers. Her shading is so dark, I'm guessing she used the markers directly on the petals. I wanted it to be a bit lighter.
I finished off the floral piece by Color Spritzing Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz, then roughing up the edges with the Distress Tool.
Other Card Details: The floral image is tied with the new 1/8" Marina Mist Tafetta Ribbon. The Thank You sentiment and the tiny line of flowers are stamps from the same Because I Care set. Notice how I CASEd her Modern Label Punch layer. Just punch out the back layer, cut in half and adhere to each side of the punched sentiment.
I'm liking this card a lot, it has purple in it after all, so it may have to be a card for this week's Stamp Club! What do you think?
