My Stampin' Success demonstrator magazine had another cute card that I couldn't wait to CASE…
It's not very often that you would think about using Designer Series Paper as the base of your card, but the Natural Composition Specialty DSP is heavy enough to make a sturdy base for these two cool cards!
TIP: If you add a sentiment onto the Natural Composition DSP, you'll need to
use the permanent StazOn ink, otherwise the ink will be resisted on the
paper's embossed patterns.
I got a little carried away with my patterns until they ended up way too "busy" looking for my taste, but it's only because I was having so much fun playing!
I stamped Papillon Potpouri images in coordinating colors onto Primrose Petals and Summer Starfruit card stock, then punched them out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch. I finished them with an Itty Bitty Punch flower in the same color, topped with a Rhinestone Jewel.
But, what I really loved was stamping on the new 7/8" Cotton Ribbon! A simple image would have worked better here, but I was like a kid in a candy store! I was having too much fun playing with different stamps in different colors. Here I used the Love Blossoms Wheel in Primrose Petals ink, and an image from Summer Silhouettes stamp set in Summer Starfruit ink. So pretty!
You could use the Multipurpose Glue to adhere the ribbon, but I found that SNAIL adhesive worked just as well and was less messy.
I tried to simplify my second version, but I wasn't very successful! Oh well!
It's just that the diamond shapes on the butterfly kinda coordinated with the paper…so I had to try it!
And, the new Linked Lace Builder Wheel also mimicked the design of the paper, so I had to try that, too!
I didn't stop there…I had to experiement with more stamping on ribbon in other colors and patterns…
I tried the Love Blossoms Wheel in Rich Razzleberry…Stampin' Around Wheels are the perfect width for this stuff! Then, I stamped the Summer Silhouettes image in Garden Green, the floral image from Elements of Style in Pacific Point, and some Fabulous Phrases in Rich Razzleberry. Fun, fun, fun!
You should definitely try stamping on Cotton Ribbon…I know you'll be addicted, too!
Some of my customers have asked how Cotton Ribbon compares to the retired Cotton Twill Ribbon Stampin' Up! used to carry. Even though they look very similar, Cotton Ribbon is actually thinner and much easier to tie than the Cotton Twill Ribbon. The texture is also less pronounced, making it easier to stamp. Plus, you get a lot more on the spool—10 yards!
My Stampin' Success even suggested creating a ribbon flower with stamped Cotton Ribbon. I stamped the flourish image from Creative Elements in Soft Suede on a 12" piece of ribbon, then ran a stitch with White Baker's Twine along one edge. Simply pull it tight and sew the ends together for the flower shape. I also sewed on a Very Vanilla button. Can't wait to try this on a future project! Too Cool!
