I'm taking a summer break for a couple of weeks! I'm still available for ordering, customer service questions & order pickup, but you'll see limited blog posts & Facebook posts. I'll be checking email daily and you are welcome to text.
I recently received a super-cool buckle card as a swap card from Susan Campfield and I loved it so much I decided to create several different versions of this interlocking card style! The first one I created featured items from the Magnolia Lane suite! I show how to create this fun card style on my Facebook LIVE class from last week.
Background Basics—I created a Petal Pink card base that measures 8-1/2" x 4-1/4" and is scored at the 3" mark along the 8-1/2" side. I added a 5-1/4" x 4" piece of striped Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper on the inside the card. On the outside panel, I adhered a 2-3/4" x 4" piece of the black floral design from the same paper pack.
Buckle Latch—I punched the buckle latch hole with the Classic Label Punch; center the punch and insert the panel all the way to the back of the punch for the hole positioning.
The Buckle—The Basic Black buckle measures 7-1/4" x 2" and is scored at the 3-5/8" mark. This piece will open left-to-right, so be sure you have it opening the correct way. I stamped the Good Morning, Magnolia sentiment in VersaMark ink, sprinkled on White Embossing Powder and embossed with the Heat Tool until glossy & smooth. TIP: Don't forget to rub the Embossing Buddy over the cardstock before inking, to reduce the amount of stray powder flecks sticking where you don't want them.
I added Tear & Tape to the back of the buckle, inserted the end into the punched hole, then positioned and adhered it to the inside of the card base.
Finishing Touches—I used the Magnolia Memory dies to die-cut a flower from the Magnolia Lane DSP. You could also stamp the flower from the Good Morning, Magnolia stamp set, color and die-cut with the same dies. It's popped up with Dimensionals. I added a couple of Pearl Jewels on the top right corner.
Inside The Card—On the inside of the buckle, I stamped a magnolia onto a 3-3/8" x 1-3/4" piece of Whisper White.
Two Cool—I tried a second version featuring items from the Floral Essence suite. The Night of Navy card base is decorated with the beautiful painterly patterns from the Perennial Essence Designer Series Papers. Those papers are simply gorgeous!
The Buckle—I embossed the Floral Essence sentiment onto a Night of Navy buckle this time. Then, I stamped the Floral Essence 3-petal flowers in stamped-off Night of Navy ink onto Whisper White two times. They are colored with Light Calypso Coral and Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends Markers, punched with the Perennial Flower Punch and popped up with Dimensionals. I finished it with a fuzzy Perennial Essence Floral center. The centers are so fun & unique, but please note that they are not able to be mailed with standard postage.
Inside The Card—I stamped the Floral Essence sentiment in Night of Navy. I finished with a couple of Blueberry Bushel rhinestones from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones pack.
Three Cool—I tried another version with the Above The Clouds suite. This card has a Thick Whisper White card base that's decorated with a Pool Party pattern from the Subtles Collection 6×6" DSP pack. I tied some Gorgeous Grape Mini Striped Ribbon around the front flap for a pop of color.
Balloon Buckle—I stamped the Above The Clouds balloon and basket images in Memento Black ink and colored them with Light Lovely Lipstick, Light Bermuda Bay and Dark Highland Heather Stampin' Blends Markers. I added some Wink of Stella glimmer, too! The images are cut out with the Hot Air Balloon Punch and popped up with Dimensionals onto the Pool Party cardstock buckle. I also stamped an Above The Clouds sentiment, then added some Noble Peacock Rhinestones.
Inside The Card—I stamped coordinating pennants and hot air balloon images from Above The Clouds and colored with the same markers and Wink of Stella. I finished with a sentiment from the same stamp set in Memento Black ink.
Swap Card received from Susan Campfield originally inspired by Terri Gaines.
Four Cool—This is Susan Campfield's buckle card that I received for a swap. What a fun graduation card! Her card measurements are just a tad different. Her Thick Whisper White card base starts at 8-5/8" x 4-1/4". I changed mine to allow for me to use the 8-1/2" end of the cardstock sheet. Hers is scored at 3-1/8". She added a 2-7/8" x 4" piece of the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper, then punched a hole by sliding the Classic Label Punch all the way onto the flap, just like the first card.
Susan's Buckle—The buckle measures a little different than mine to fit Susan's different dimensions: 7" x 2". She decorated it by stamping the Sailing Home sailboat and sentiment in Night of Navy ink onto Whisper White, then using the Smooth Sailing dies to cut out. Both are popped up with Dimensionals.
Inside The Card—Susan's card has a sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings and birds from Sailing Home, both stamped in Night of Navy.
