Build A Birthday Dancing Cake & Candles Cards

OK, so I know that cakes & candles can't really dance, but I love the "movement" on these cute Build A Birthday cards!  And they are so much fun to make!  These are two versions of one of the card designs included in my Build A Birthday Stamp-of-the-Month Kit.

Dancing cake 1 - Copy

Cake Base—The focal point starts with a 3-1/8" x 5" piece of Whisper White.  I stamped the Build A Birthday cake base image in Crushed Curry at the bottom of the panel.

Flurry of Flags—I also stamped all of the flags at the very top of the panel, so I could just fill in the dancing layers later.  TIP: I was a little worried that the flag poles were too long, so I only inked the top half of the flags image each of the three times I stamped it. Stamp them very close together so they will all get covered by the shortest cake layer.

Dancing Layers—Each of the cake layers is created on scrap Whisper White card stock.  Some layers, like the bottom Bermuda Bay and top Watermelon Wonder ones, are stamped with rectangles from the Build A Birthday set, then cut out.  The other two layers are created with Cherry On Top Washi Tape that's stuck to the card stock and cut out.  All layers are tilted a bit this way or that way, and are popped up with Dimensionals.

Sweet Sentiment—The sentiment is stamped over the top of the cake base in Memento Black ink.

Finishing Touches—I decorated my cake with three Bermuda Bay Sequins, adhered with a no-mess Glue Dot. After adhering the focal point layer onto a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Watermelon Wonder, I wrapped some Bermuda Bay Baker's Twine around it twice and tied a bow.  Then, I mounted it onto a Bermuda Bay card base.

Two Cool—I used the same elements from the first card to create this adorable, horizontal, dancing candles card.

Dancing candles 2

Candles—This time, my stamped images and washi tape panels became the candle bases. I stamped my sentiment first, then positioned all of my candles where I wanted them.

Dancing candles 3

Flames—Before popping them up with Dimensionals, I stamped the candle flames in Crushed Curry.  After adhering the candle bases, I added a few sequins for some eye-catching accents.  Too cute!

  1. I love both of the cards so its hard to choose. So I think I like the Dancing Layers Cake card just a little more. Thanks for sharing this great idea.
