Dandelion Wishes & Pressed Flowers Cards

I'm feeling kind of sad this morning, and it's a little surprising, frankly.  You see, I lost a familiar part of my morning routine and a little piece of my childhood.  Our local morning WOWO radio personality, Charly Butcher, passed away unexpectedly yesterday afternoon at 61.  I didn't know him personally, but his friendly voice has been a companion of mine nearly every morning for decades. I grew up listening to him as one of WMEE's "Those Two Guys In The Morning" and in my teens, I spent many evenings taping his "Coca-Cola Top 9 at 9" on my tape recorder. He's been a legendary broadcasting icon in the northeast Indiana community for more than 35 years. 

Isn't it funny how we take seemingly insignificant parts of our life for granted. I never realized how much of an impact one DJ could have on my life, but now that he's gone, I know I'll certainly miss the familiarity of his banter and it will leave a void in my mornings.  It's another little reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of appreciating each day, each blessing experienced and every one who touches our lives. 

Today, I'm sharing a couple of swap cards that I received this week from team members; one sympathy card and one "celebrate today" card.  Sounds about right.

Kathe's Dandelion Wishes With Sympathy Card

I received this pretty swap card this week from my team member, Kathe Madsen.  I love the soft colors!

 

Background Basics—This card begins with a Balmy Blue card base.  Kathe stamped the floating dandelion seeds from Dandelion Wishes in VersaMark ink across the top left half of the background for a subtle pattern. 

 

Cool Ribbon Slot—Have you seen this before?  Kathe used a 1/2" Circle Punch to snip a little notch along the folded edge of the card to create a handy ribbon slot.  How clever!  She threaded some white ribbon through the slot and tied it into a double-knot faux bow.  So cute!

 

Focal Point—Kathe stamped the Dandelion Wishes dandelion image and Flourishing Phrases sentiment in VersaMark ink onto a 4-1/2" x 3-1/8" layer of Balmy Blue, then heat embossed it with Whisper White Embossing Powder.  It's mounted onto a 4-5/8" x 3-1/4" layer of Whisper White with SNAIL, then it's popped up with Dimensionals onto the card front.

Janet's Pressed Flowers Beautiful Day Card

Here's another pretty and easy-to-duplicate card created by team member Janet Shinn.

 

Focal Point Stamping—Janet stamped the Pressed Flowers floral image several times in Highland Heather ink onto the side of a 5-1/4" x 4" piece of Whisper White card stock.  The Pressed Flowers stamp set is an host exclusive set that can be selected with a minimum order of $150 or more.  Next, she added a Love What You Do sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. 

 

Lovely Linen—My favorite part of this card is the textured details on the background layer. After stamping, Janet ran the layer through the Big Shot using the Subtle Texture Impressions Folder to create a beautiful linen texture.  Then, she added some lovely faux-stitching around the edges with the Stitched Labels Framelits.  The edgelit cuts each side separately, creating a cool border…the perfect touch!

 

 

Finishing Touches—Janet adhered the front layer onto a Highland Heather card base, then added Pearl Jewels to each of the flowers.  She finished by adding a little white bow with a Glue Dot. How lovely!
