Today I'm showing the final Two Cool cards we'll be doing at this class!  You can see all of the other designs at the following links:

Designer Cuts Stained Glass Technique

I saved the best two Designer Cuts Cards for last!  I found this fun technique at Patty Bennett's blog.  Check it out!

Stained glass blue heart   Stained glass blue heart 2

I love all of the pretty blues and purples showing through the laser-cut heart—it looks just like stained glass!  Beautiful!  I used a combination of Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade and Island Indigo for this heart.

The embellishment at the bottom is 2011-2013 In Color Designer Patterns Paper on Lucky Limeade card stock with a Loving Thoughts banner and a cute Island Indigo mini bow.

I loved the results so much that I had to do two class cards with this same technique!  It's just too much fun experimenting with the different color combinations.

This version uses Peach Parfait, Calypso Coral, Rose Red and Old Olive.   I added a multicolor sentiment from Word Play (colored with markers), and a Fashionable Hearts Embosslit heart from Calypso Coral card stock.

Stained Glass Vellum Window How-Tos

You can do this technique on any punched out window design (like the Lace Ribbon Border Punch), but it works exceptionally well with the Designer Cuts laser-cut designs.

  • Cut a piece of Vellum Card Stock large enough to cover the design.
  • Lay the Vellum over the top of your heart design on the front of the card.

  • Use the brush tip end of your choice of Stampin' Write Markers to color over the flowers.

  • Continue coloring over all the flowers and leaves until the entire heart is covered.

Stained glass - colored heart 3

  • Adhere the colored vellum to the inside of the card, so the marker shows through.  Placing your vellum on top of the card front to color will mean that the full marker color will show through the design once adhered.  Option: For a frosted color look, adhere the vellum to the inside of the card first, then use your markers on the inside of the card.

I love the way the light shows through the colored vellum…a true stained glass effect!  The problem is that the inside of the card doesn't look that great…

Inside Card Front

I used the Hearts Framelits to cut a window from Wisteria Wonder to cover up the inside except where the heart was, but it still looked too messy for me.  I ended up covering the whole inside so it was neat and clean, but then the light doesn't shine through.  Sacrifices!

What do you think of this technique?!  I love it so much, I may have to buy extra Designer Cuts Cards to experiment with even more color combinations!  You can experiment with your favorite colors on two of the cards at my Designer Cuts Extreme Makeover Class!  Come and play!  Sign up today!
