Easy “From My Heart” Diagonal Card

Don't you love it when a project looks complicated, but it's really super-simple to make?!  Today's fancy fold project is just like that—deceptively easy to make!

Diagonal - two cool

Inspired by LeeAnn Greff at Flowerbug's Inkspot.

I tried out a diagonal fold card for the very first time and it was SO much fun!  It's a fantastic project for showing off the awesome, double-sided Designer Series Papers from Stampin' Up!  For these two cool cards, I used International Bazaar DSP with its bold, bright patterns.

Each card has a belly band, featuring a From My Heart image, that slips off to reveal a gate-fold card.

You get a different look depending on which side of the paper you use.

Make Your Own Diagonal Fold Card

Diagonal - template marks

  • Start with a piece of Designer Series Paper that is 12" wide, and 5-1/2" high.
  • Along the 12" side, score at 2", 4", 8", 10".
  • Along the 5-1/2" side, mark the paper at 2-3/4" (half-way point).
  • Cut from that mark diagonally to the 4" score line.
  • Add a 3-3/4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White card stock to the middle panel.

Option: You can flip your cut-off diagonal corners over and adhere them to the bottom of the card, as shown on the template above.

Here is what it looks like with the extra corner pieces added.  It really gives it a fabulous zib-zag effect!

For the belly band, I simply cut a strip of Pacific Point card stock that was 3/4" by 11" long.  I loosely wrapped it around the card, adhered it in the center and trimmed off the excess.

I used the From My Heart stamp set for all of the sentiments on both cards, inside and out.  The shape of this one works really well with the Window Frame Framelits die-cuts.  I added paper-piercing with the template from the Festive Paper-Piercing Pack…get yours FREE when you participate in this month's Christmas Gift Promotion.  It's layered with a 3×3" square piece of Early Espresso.

Details: I also colored the heart in with Lucky Limeade, and added a White Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon to the belly band.

This sentiment matches the Labels Collection Framelits perfectly, so I die-cut the greeting and an Early Espresso layer behind it.  (The Festive Paper-Piercing Pack also has piercing templates for this shape, too!)
