As we head in to our final weeks of the Retiring Stamp Sets, available thru May 31, I'm taking some time to play with some of my favorites for the last time. I'm also trying to use up my Retired Accessories!
This part is always so sad, but it's particularly painful this year because I'm losing 75 sets!! 75 frickin' sets!!!!! It still makes me catch my breath a little when I think about it. But, I think I'll be able to come to grips with it as soon as I see the New Annual Catalog! (It's officially released on June 1, but demonstrators get to see it May 7! You could see it then, too, if you Join My Team for just $99!)
That reminds me…I want to welcome the newest member of my Too Cool Demo Team, Jill Wait! Congratulations for joining the Stampin' Up! family, Jill! I know you're going to have a blast as a new demonstrator!
OK—On to today's Two Cool Cards…
CASEd from Jodie Olver: Watercoloring With Fifth Avenue Floral.
These cards use several soon-to-be-retiring products: Fifth Avenue Floral, the Eyelet Border Punch, Concord Crush 2010-2012 In Color card stock (sold out individually, only available in the assortment), Paper Piercing Tool and the Mat Pack.
Oh, I'm gonna miss doing watercoloring techniques with the beautiful Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set. I used VersaMark Ink along with Black Embossing Powder to stamp the images onto Naturals Ivory card stock. This made the image easy to "watercolor" without smearing.
Next, I used a Blender Pen to add a light color to the entire background of the flowers (Daffodil Delight or Wisteria Wonder). I squeezed the ink pad to get ink on the lid, and used that as my palette. Then, I added more layers of color.
For the yellow flowers, I simply added shading with a Daffodil Delight Marker.
For the other flowers, I used the Blender Pen again to add layers of Perfect Plum, Concord Crush, and Rich Razzleberry inks. The sparkle in flower centers is from Clear Dazzling Details glitter glue. I cut the flowers out freehand and popped them up with Dimensionals.
I layered the flowers onto Daffodil Delight cardstock edged with the Eyelet Border Punch.
Another subtle detail is the pretty paper piercing border. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to add this interesting texture! Love that look! The Mat Pack set has a paper piercing template that allows you to punch those lined-up holes with ease! The current Paper Piercing Tool is on the Retired Accessories list because it's being replaced by another version.
This may not be the last you see of Fifth Avenue Floral from me…not quite finished with this pretty stamp set yet.
