Fifth Avenue Revise: Watercolor Lilies

Fifth Ave Floral - Lilies (2)

Fifth Ave Floral - Ugh (2) So, a few days ago, I was trying to find a way to use the Fifth Avenue Floral set with this same color combination: Ruby Red, Cameo Coral and Apricot Appeal.  I really love the warmth of these colors when they are used together, plus, all of these colors will be retiring soon—trying to play with them while I still can!  But alas, my first attempt resulted in what I now refer to as my Fifth Avenue Ugh Card (shown here, for comparison purposes only, in mini version to downplay the pure blandness of it).

My second attempt turned out much better, don't you think? The Top Note shape gives it a lot more punch and the lilies create a very bold focal point.  The flowers in this set are excellent for watercoloring techniques—such a versatile set that creates so many different looks.  And don't forget, you can purchase Fifth Avenue Floral at 20% off this month only with the Two-Step Into Spring promotion!

Card Details

  • I ran Whisper White and Apricot Appeal card stock through the Big Shot with the Top Note Die. Then cut along the perforation lines on the white to create the layer.
  • Stamped two lilies with StazOn Black on the Top Note, and one on a scrap piece.
  • Colored the images with Watercolor Wonder Crayons in matching colors, lighter colors on edges and darker shades toward the center.  Blended light to dark with Blender Pens.
  • I cut out the extra lily and curled the petals using a new technique: turn the flower over and lay it on the foam mat from the Mat Pack.  Then use the Empressor Stylus in small circular motions on the insides of each petal.  This gently softens the card stock and makes it curl naturally like a petal.
  • Added some Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads to the flower centers.  The curled flower is popped up with Dimensionals.
  • I added a real 1/4" Grosgrain bow (not a faux bow, can you believe it?) with a Mini Glue Dot.

May your day be blended with all shades of happiness!
