Weekly deals CM1634BHi Stamping Friends!

First off, please take a moment to check out the new Weekly Deals for this week!

OK, have you seen all of the cool flag cards that stampers are creating with the Work of Art stamp set?!  It's alright if you've missed them, because today I'm bringing you four of my favorites!  I had so much fun making them!  Go Red, White & Blue!

Flags - 4 cool

Positively Patriotic—All of these fun flag styles are created with just one stamp set—Work of Art!  With July 4th coming up, what better way to celebrate our country's freedom than to show your appreciation to military members and their families for their service and sacrifice!

And, those stampers who are joining me at my "Last Thursdays" card class will be able to create the flag design that they like most!  Let's take a closer look at each one.

Flags - curved swoosh

CASEd from Sandi MacIver at

I'm starting with my favorite flag first because it's fabulous!  I love the curved look of this flag, as well as the double stamping that gives the illusion that the flag is waving in the breeze.

Masking Stripes—It's easy to achieve this look with some simple masking.

  • Stamp the Night of Navy Work of Art splotch onto the top of a Post-It note, so that the sticky part is on the back of the image.  Cut out the right side and bottom of the image.
  • Stamp the Night of Navy splotch at an angle onto 5" x 3-3/4" Whisper White card stock.
  • Lay your Post-It mask over the top of the stamped image.
  • Stamp the Cherry Cobbler swoosh over the top of the mask, lining up the left edge with the left edge of the masked image.  Stamp, then move to the right about an inch and stamp again without re-inking.
  • Continue stamping two more swooshes, using a Stamp-a-Ma-Jig for positioning, if necessary.

Sandi MacIver has a fabulous video tutorial to show you exactly how to create this Swoosh Flag Card.

Mount the stamped layer onto a 5-1/4" x 4" Cherry Cobber layer, then adhere to a Night of Navy card base.

Flags - curved swoosh 2

Sparking Stars—I embellished the flag with three representative Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper stars punched with the star punch from the new Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  The trio is popped up with Dimensionals.  Perfect!

Flags - curved swoosh 3

Thank You "Stamp"—The Lots of Thanks stamp set has "thank yous" in all shapes and sizes, and this was just the shape I was looking for.  I like the distressed look of the font with the swooshes.  I stamped the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler onto Whisper White, then punched it with the 1" Square Punch.  The Night of Navy Postage Stamp shape seemed an appropriate way to highlight the words.

Each of my flag cards also has some Rhinestone Jewels accents around the sentiment.

Flags - straight lines

CASEd from LeeAnn Greff at Flowerbug's Inkspot.

Straight Lines—For a more traditional looking, yet still delightfully distressed, flag, I used the straight lines from the Work of Art set for the stripes on this flag.  Using the same masking technique as the first card, I straightened out the Night of Navy splotch and stamped the line 5 times leaving some white space in-between.

Flags - straight lines 2

Finishing Touches—The sentiment is again from Lots of Thanks and it's stamped directly over the stripes.

Flags - diagonal

CASEd from Melissa Stout at The Stamp Doc.

The third version is very similar to the second flag, I just went vertical with the card base and put the flag on the diagonal.

Flags - diagonal 3

There's plenty of room at the bottom of this version to add a larger sentiment.  I used the words from the Work of Art set this time, surrounded by some Rhinestone Jewel bubbles.

Flags - chevrons

CASEd from Aly at Aly Stamps.

The last version is also a favorite of mine because of the illusion of movement with the chevron stripes.  I used the same masking technique, but I had some trouble getting the chevrons to line up next to the Basic Gray pole that I stamped on the side.  So, you'll see that I stamped my flag again, then cut it out and popped up over my mistake.  I guess I should have used my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig!  Oh well.

Flags - chevrons 2

The sentiment is again from Lots of Thanks, this time punched with the Word Window Punch and popped with Dimensionals to match the level of the flag.
