Happiest of Days Watercolor Cake Cards
Even more than the sweet images from the Happiest of Days stamp set, my very favorite parts of these cards are the new Basics Washi Tape Packs!
Color-Perfect Basics Washi Tapes—When I first saw these new assortments of washi tape in the new catalog, I have to be honest…I wasn't very excited about them. Why would I want so many of the same patterns…how boring! Then, I suddenly realized the reason behind the change. Like ribbon, when it comes to washi tape as an element on a project, it's usually less about the pattern and more about the COLOR of the tape that makes it versatile. These assortments cover 15 of the most popular colors from our Stampin' Up! Color Collections, plus a nice selection of widths in black & white patterns. That means that you'll more than likely be able to find just the color you need for the perfect accent! Too Cool! See details on all the Designer Washi Tapes.
Background Basics—I combined the pretty washi tapes from the Basics Pack 1 (pinks) and Basics Pack 3 (blues) to create a fun striped background on a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White. I used Flirty Flamingo, Dapper Denim, Berry Burst, Night of Navy and Pool Party tape colors.
I also stamped a Happiest of Days greeting under the tape in Memento Black ink. It's adhered to a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" layer of Berry Burst, then tied with some Fresh Fig 1/8" Sheer Ribbon. I mounted all of it onto a Night of Navy card base.
Watercolored Cake—I stamped the Happiest of Days cute little cake in Memento Black ink onto Whisper White card stock, then die-cut it with the Stitched Shapes Framelits into an oval shape. I used a Blender Pen and ink pads to color in the cake in these colors: Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo, Fresh Fig, Berry Burst, Dapper Denim and Peekaboo Peach for the candle flames. I layered the stamped layer onto a Night of Navy scallop oval die-cut from Layering Ovals Framelits and popped it up with Dimensionals.
Finishing Touches—I brushed over the entire cake with the Wink of Stella Clear pen for some pretty shimmer. I added some floating Rhinestones above the oval element and beside the sentiment.
Two Cool—I changed up the color combination and orientation on my second card. This time the background layers are Night of Navy with a Berry Burst card base and scallop oval.
I used all of the same colors for coloring, just featured them in different areas. Which color combination do you like better?
