Dad & dawn 2 - 78th birthday

We celebrated my dad's 78th birthday over the weekend.  I love this photo I snapped of my dad, Tom Putman, along with my O-Mom (short for "Other Mother"), Dawn!  Update for those who have commented: My dad isn't a giant, nor is my O-Mom short.  She is sitting on a bar stool.  Poor cropping on my part!  Haha!

Dad bday balloon card

Inspired from Ronda Wade at My Stamping Best Friend.

I had lots of fun making the Washi Tape Balloon Cards last week, so I decided to make my dad a similar card in more "manly" colors.  This time I used the color combination from the Retro Fresh Washi Tape.

Background Basics—The 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Bermuda Bay background was embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, then matted it onto a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White.  After I adhered the balloon strings where I wanted them and wrapped them around the back, I mounted the whole thing on a Soft Suede card base.

Sentiment—The So Very Happy sentiment was stamped in Momento Black ink, then colored in with a Calypso Coral Marker and punched out with the Large Oval Punch.  It's adhered to a Soft Suede Scalloped Oval punched shape and popped up with Dimensionals.

Balloons Galore—After laying down the washi tape on a piece of scrap card stock, I cut the balloon shapes with the Circles Collection Framelits.  It doesn't take much tape at all…I even had some left over to die-cut a couple smaller circles to use on the inside of the card.

I decorated the bottom of the inside of the card with those, and added some hand-drawn strings.  What a cute little accent!

See more details about this card design on my Washi Tape Balloon Cards post.

Gift card wallet 2

CASEd from Deb Valder at Stamping & Scrapbooking.

Gift Card Wallet—I also had several gift cards to give my dad, and since those are kinda boring, I thought I'd dress them up a bit!  I found this fantastic Father's Day Gift Card Wallet tutorial by Deb Valder—perfect!

I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!  At first glance, you'd think it was a real leather wallet!

The inside has pockets for 4 gift cards!

Check out Deb's video for details, but here are the basic measurements to get you started:

  • Wallet Cover—9" x 3-1/2", score at 4-7/16" and 4-9/16"
  • Inside Wallet—8-1/2" x 3-1/4", score at 4-1/4"
  • 2 Large Pockets—4-3/16 x 2"
  • 2 Small Pocket—4-3/16 x 1"

Details, Details, Details—I love all of the details that go into this wallet to make it look real!  First, all of the corners are rounded with the new Project Life Corner Rounder Punch, and all of the edges are sponged with Soft Suede.  Plus, If you look closely at the edges, you'll see that each one is faux stitched with the Stampin' Trimmer Perferating Rotary Blade.

Faux Alligator Leather—I started by stamping the entire cover with the Soft Suede splatters from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set to give it some color variation.  Next, I tried the faux-alligator technique that Deb Valder shared on her Ladies Faux Alligator Clutch Gift Certificate Holder video. You simply cover the entire sheet with VersaMark Ink, sprinkle on Clear Embossing Powder, draw some lines with a Bone Folder, then heat the powder until smooth and glossy.  So fun!

Fast Fuse Adhesive—This was the first project that I used the new Fast Fuse Adhesive, and it worked like a charm!  It's got similar stickiness to Sticky Strip in a convenient, SNAIL-like dispenser!  TIP: Use a Silicon Mat underneath your project while you add adhesive to the edges to keep your work surface sticky-free!

I also made Dad his favorite lemon meringue pie (a real treat since baking is NOT my creative forté!). Hope you had a great birthday, Dad!  Love you so much!
