Home To Roost with Buffalo Check Cards

Hi Stamping Friends!

I never would have thought that I would love the Home To Roost rooster as much as I do. Even though it's just one image, there are so many ways to color it and layer it with different patterns and textures.  We'll be creating one of these cards at my "Last Thursdays" class this week.  If you're in the Fort Wayne, IN area, I hope you can join us!

Home To Roost with Buffalo Check Cards
I was so excited that the Buffalo Check background stamp from the Holiday Catalog was carried over into the new year!  It looks amazing paired with the Home To Roost Sale-a-Bration stamp set!  Just the right amount of country style!

Buffalo Basics—I started by inking up the large Buffalo Check background stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  TIPS: I like to lay larger stamps like this rubber-side-up on the table and tap the ink pad onto it.  For Memento Ink specifically, I kind of turn and "smoosh" the ink onto the stamp with each tap to help achieve full coverage.

Next, I laid a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock on top of the inked stamp and burnished over the cardstock with my hands.  Many times I'll lay a piece of copy paper over the cardstock to cover the entire inked stamp, so that I can easily burnish close to the edges of the cardstock without getting my fingers dirty.  That will give me a nice transfer of ink every time!

Background Basics—I adhered the checked layer onto a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic Black cardstock.  Next I wrapped some Braided Linen Trim around the layers, tied it into a double-knot and frayed the ends.  I mounted the background onto a Crumb Cake card base using some Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Handsome Rooster—I stamped the Home To Roost rooster in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, then die-cut it with the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  You can earn this stamp set for FREE with a $50 order during Sale-a-Bration!

I colored in the rooster with a variety of Stampin' Blends Markers.  It's so much fun to experiment with different rooster shades!  This one is colored with lots of neutral colors: Crumb Cake, Bronze, Soft Suede, Smoky Slate and Cherry Cobbler.  I popped up the circle with Dimensionals onto the card front.

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped a Home To Roost sentiment in Memento Black onto a 3-1/4" x 1/2" piece of Crumb Cake, fishtailing the left end and popping up with Dimensionals.

Two Cool—I stamped the Buffalo Check in Night of Navy ink this time.  I noticed that you really need to have a lot of ink in the firm foam pad for best results.  I mounted it to a Night of Navy layer and wrapped the Braided Linen Trim around the horizontal side this time.

Blue Rooster—Ooh, I love the addition of Night of Navy to this rooster!  I also used Crumb Cake, Bronze and Soft Suede Stampin' Blends Markers.

Stitched Sentiment—I stamped the Home To Roost sentiment onto a scrap of Crumb Cake then die-cut it with the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  The sentiment was a little bit smaller than the smallest rectangle framelit, so I ran the sentiment through a second time for a double-cut die-cut.  The result is a smaller rectangle that looks like it was made with a smaller framelit!  Here's how it's done:

Double-Cut Sentiment 1
Stamp the sentiment and line it up near the bottom of the framelit. Run through the Big Shot.

Double-Cut Sentiment 2
Now position the same framelit over the die-cut so that the sentiment is near the top of the framelit. Take care that the sides are lined up with the previous cut as much as possible. You may even want to look at the back side and secure it with washi tape.  Run through the Big Shot.

Double-Cut Sentiment 3
You'll end up with a die-cut shape that is the perfect side for your greeting.  I love how the stitched border is so forgiving that it looks like it was die-cut that way the first time!  Too Cool!
