Inspired By The New Catalog—Strips of Scraps CASE

Aside from all the awesome new stamps, beautiful new papers, and amazing new tools & embellishments, the New 2012-2013 Annual Catalog is also a fantastic source of creative inspiration!  If you're still in need on a catalog, see details on how you can get your own copy for FREE.

Strips - two cool

CASEd from the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog, page 138.

I was inspired to create these Two Cool cards after seeing a similar project in the new catalog on page 138!

I loved the idea of using scrap strips of coordinating Designer Series Paper, and even some scraps of extra ribbon, to make a fun background.  You know you always have little slivers of pretty papers, and tiny, too-small-to-tie ribbons, that usually find their way to the trash can.  Now you can put them to good use!  (Just what I need, another reason for this paper hoarder to SAVE scraps—haha!)

I cut a variety of widths of paper, and laid them out ahead of time to plan a pleasing pattern.  The paper is adhered with 2-Way Glue Pen, because the SNAIL adhesive was too wide for most of the strips.

I love the beautiful blues and greens on this design!  I picked Midnight Muse, Lucky Limeade and Baja Breeze patterns from a variety of new Designer Paper Packs: Comfort Café, Twitterpated, Floral District, and Patio Party.  See the exact patterns shown above.

TIP: The Patio Party sheet I used is actually a variety of unique stripes that are designed to be cut apart and used as pretty, decorative border accents (photo #1 above).  And, another sheet in that same package is perfect for punching with a 1-3/4" Circle Punch (photo #2)!  How versatile!  Click to enlarge the photos!

For some texture, I also added a strip of Lucky Limeade Ruffled Ribbon and new White Stitched 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon with Multipurpose Glue.

The sentiment has three layers.  The bottom layer is Whisper White card stock die-cut with the Labels Framelits, then textured embossed with the Stripes Impressions Folder.  I stamped the For You image from new Layered Labels in Lucky Limeade and die-cut that with the new Apothecary Accents Framelits, then stamped it again in Midnight Muse and punched it with the Large Oval Punch.

TIP: The letters in "for you" are actually outlines.  I filled them in with a Midnight Muse marker, so the words would be darker and stand out a little better against the patterned background.

All the layers are popped up with Dimensionals, of course, and have a little Rhinestone Jewels bling!

This is such a fun and easy background to make, even for kids!  Try it today with some of your scraps!
