Hi Stamping Friends!

There is just one more week to register for my July Stamp-of-the-Month Blooms & Wishes Class-To-Go Kit or local class in Fort Wayne, IN. My Class-To-Go Kits include all the stamps & supplies you need to create 6 beautiful projects, just add inks & adhesives.

Today, I'm sharing the second card design from our class and this one is so much fun!  It's a card that opens to a pop-up diorama-like window that many call a Tunnel Card.  Too Cool!  Let's check out the details!

Blooms & Wishes Pop-Up Tunnel Card

Sometimes you need an extra-special card for that extra-special person in your life and these cards are perfect for that!  Not only is it pretty on the outside, but the inside opens to create a card that looks great on display!

Our class will feature two of these cards, one in Sweet Sugarplum and one in Mint Macaron, and both highlight some of my favorite patterns from the Blooms & Bliss DSP.

Tunnel Card From The Inside Out—We're starting off with the inside of these cards first, because you need to do the stamping on the inside of the card before folding it.  Otherwise, you'll have a horrible non-stamped line running right through the focal point.

Tunnel Window Layer—I began with an 8"x 5" piece of Sweet Sugarplum card stock that I scored along the 8" side at 2", 4" and 6" using the Simply Scored tool.  Next, I selected the second largest oval die from the Layering Ovals Framelits, lined it up with the center fold going down the middle and ran it through the Big Shot.  I folded the window layer into a "W" by bending the window center back, and folding the outside score lines forward, as shown above.  Do not adhere to the card base yet!

Stamped Focal Point—I stamped the focal point on a NON-SCORED and NON-FOLDED piece of 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Whisper White card stock for the card inside.  First, I positioned the tunnel layer over the card base to use as a template for stamping the greeting, then I stamped the Blooms & Wishes sentiment through the window in Rich Razzleberry ink.

Next, I took the window layer away and finished adding my collage stamping of flowers around the greeting.  I was careful not to stamp near the edge of the card base that would be showing after the window layer was added.

Floral Collage—I stamped the flowers around the greeting in this order:

  • Stamp 2-3 large flowers in Blushing Bride ink
  • Stamp the large flower centers in Sweet Sugarplum ink
  • Stamp 3 medium flowers in Rich Razzleberry ink
  • Fill in the gaps with leaves in Sahara Sand ink

Assembling The Tunnel—Once the inside stamping is complete, that's when I finally scored the card and folded it in half.  I added Tear & Tape Adhesive to the back of the outside panels of the window layer. To adhere it to the card base, I folded the panels with tape back over the top of the window with tape facing up, then lined up the center score lines of both layers.  Then, I peeled off the tape backing from one panel and folded it down onto the card, repeating the action on the other side.

Inside Décor—I added 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" pieces of Blooms & Bliss DSP to each inside panel.  I also stamped a small flower in Sweet Sugarplum, hand-cut it with Paper Snips and adhered it to the side.  I finished by adding some Wink of Stella Clear to the flowers.

Card Front Basics—I kept the front of the card pretty simple, since the fun is on the inside!  I selected a coordinating pattern of Blooms & Bliss DSP measuring 3-3/4" x 5" and matted that onto a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Sweet Sugarplum card stock before adhering it to the card base.  I finished the background with a 4" x 1-1/4" strip of Blushing Bride card stock.

Oval Medallion—I stayed with the oval theme by creating a Whisper White oval focal point on the front using the same size of Layered Ovals Framelits that I used on the inside.  I stamped it with a Blooms & Wishes greeting in Rich Razzleberry, then added a few Blushing Bride medium flowers.  It's matted onto a scallop oval die-cut from the Layered Ovals Framelits in Rich Razzleberry, then popped up on the card front with Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches—I added some Pearl Jewels to the flower centers and added some Wink of Stella Clear to the flower petals.  The medallion is finished with a Sweet Sugarplum Ruched Ribbon bow attached with a Glue Dot.

Two Cool—Our second class tunnel card has an Island Indigo window layer, finished with Mint Macaron Blooms & Bliss DSP on the side panels.

Sweet Stamping—This time, I did a better job of covering the entire center of the card, so that I'd be able to see pretty flowers through the window whichever way I looked at it. I stamped the greeting first in Island Indigo through the window template, then added the collage of flowers in this order:

  • Stamp 3 large flowers in Mint Macaron ink
  • Stamp 3 medium flowers in Island Indigo (stamped off once)
  • Stamp smaller flowers in Mint Macaron or Sahara Sand to fill in the gaps

I stamped two medium flowers in Sahara Sand to hand-cut with super-sharp Paper Snips to adhere around the window frame.  Ooohhh!  I really like that!

Mint Card Front—I swapped out the background layers with a Mint Macaron pattern of DSP, a Mint Macaron mat and a Sahara Sand strip.

Mint Medallion—I stamped the greeting in Island Indigo, then stamped the large flower in Mint Macaron (stamped off once) right over the top of it.  I added a few Sahara Sand flowers, topped with Pearls and colored with Wink of Stella glimmer.  The oval is matted on Island Indigo scallop oval die-cut and accented with a Mint Macaron Sheer Linen Ribbon bow.
