Tropical Oasis with coastal weave - two cool

Tropical Oasis Palm Tree Cards
It's about 9° here in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this morning with a -10° wind chill, so I'm dreaming of warmer temperatures and enjoying a tropical oasis. One thing good about this frigid weather…I can hunker down in my Too Cool Stamping Studio and create pretty papercrafts, like these cards featuring the Tropical Oasis suite. We'll be making the first Pretty Peacock color card at my Kickoff Party event next Sunday…no matter what the weather feels like!

Tropical Oasis with coastal weave - peacock

Background Basics—I started by embossing a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock with the suite's Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder and mounted it onto a Pretty Peacock card base using a combination of Tear & Tape and SNAIL adhesives for a secure hold.  Next, I adhered a 4" x 2" piece of Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper across the bottom half of the card.

I added a strip of Tear & Tape along the top of the DSP, then attached a piece of the 5/16" Braided Burlap Trim to it for a fun, textured element.  Before mounting it, I loosened up some of the weave and frayed the ends.

Perfect Palms—I stamped the Timeless Tropical palm tree image onto a 2-1/2" x 3-1/4" piece of Whisper White. To get the two-color look, I colored directly onto the red rubber stamp with Old Olive and Soft Suede Stampin' Write Markers. Using the side of the brush tip, I gently added the color, then "huffed" onto the stamp to re-activate the color, and stamped it. I love this classic coloring technique!  The stamped piece was layered onto a 2-5/8" x 3-3/8" piece of Soft Suede cardstock, then popped up over the burlap trim with Dimensionals.

I finished by adding a couple of Pretty Peacock jewels from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones pack.

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Timeless Tropical sentiment in Early Espresso ink onto Mint Macaron cardstock, then die-cut it with the Stitched Shapes dies and popped up with more Dimensionals.

Two Cool—For my second horizontal card, I started with a Soft Sea Foam textured layer mounted onto a card base in the same color.  This time, I tried the Tropical Oasis DSP with the fun beach vacation cars…love this pattern!  I added some Braided Burlap across the right lower part of the card.

Peaceful Palms—The palm tree focal point is the same as the first card, popped up over the frayed burlap.

Sweet Sentiment—I changed up the Timeless Tropical sentiment and stamped it onto a 3" x 3/4" piece of Mint Macaron. It's adhered with SNAIL adhesive across the bottom of the palm trees, then accented with Old Olive Noble Peacock Jewels. What a lovely card for someone who's retiring, especially if they are heading to warmer climates!

  1. Hello! I didn’t know you were in Indiana. My family now lives in Bloomington, having moved from Bedford. It is a bright, sunny morning here with a temp of 11 and a “real feel” of -2! I have only been paper crafting for about a year;sharing time with counted cross stitch, crochet and reading. Love your cards. Keep on crafting!
