Hi Stamping Friends!
Today I'm sharing the first card from my Countdown To Christmas Embellished Ornaments class! I am loving this set so much! It really makes such elegant holiday cards! Just take a look at the the first card from the class and you'll see what I mean!
We'll be creating a half dozen cards in this card design at my October Countdown To Christmas Class.
Background Basics—I started by embossing a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Very Vanilla card stock with the new Softly Falling embossing folder. Then I added a 3/4" strip of the striped Gold Fancy Foil Vellum. TIP: I only applied SNAIL behind the gold stripes in the vellum, so the adhesive would not show through. The card background will eventually be mounted to a Lost Lagoon card base, but don't adhere it until you have the Gold Cording wrapped around the back.
Stamped Ornament—I stamped the first ornament in Mint Macaron onto scrap Whisper White card stock, then die-cut the shape with the coordinating Delicate Ornaments Thinlits. You can purchase the Thinlits as an Add-On to the class and get a 15% off bundle discount!
Golden Accents—I die-cut the poinsettia flower shape from the Delicate Ornaments Thinlits, too, in beautiful Gold Foil! It perfectly aligns with the pattern on the ornament! That intricate shape was adhered with the new Fine-Tip Glue Pen…which is amazing for gluing tiny places like this! And, I also cut out an ornament hanger and attached it to the top of the ornament with a Glue Dot.
Golden Ornament—The second ornament was once again die-cut with the Delicate Ornament Thinlits in Gold Foil. I glued this gorgeous die-cut to a 2" Circle Punch of Lost Lagoon card stock, so it shows through the foil—Too cool!
TIP: I highly recommend the new Precision Base Plate for cutting intricate thinlits like these ornaments! I ran mine through twice for good measure and they popped right out of the die without the use of wax paper or dryer sheets. I did have to poke out the pieces with a Piercing Tool, but they came out super easy!
Hanging The Ornaments—I used the new Gold Cording, which will come in your kit, to make the ornaments look like they were hanging. First I attached the cord to the ornament by placing a cut-down Dimensional over the top. The extra-sticky Dimensionals should hold the cord in place. After adding more Dimensionals to the back of the ornament and adhering it to the card front, I wrapped the cord around the top to the back and secured it with a piece of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Gold Bow—Stampin' Up! has had many different styles of metallic cords over the years and this one is by far my favorite! It is not too thick and not too thin. It has a little bit of texture to it, so it's super easy to make bows that won't come undone. It's perfect for both hanging real ornaments and decorating 2D ornaments on stamped projects. In the immortal words from Goldilocks, "It's just right!"
Sweet Sentiment—I finished the card by stamping the Embellished Ornaments greeting in Lost Lagoon ink onto a piece of 3-1/2" x 1-1/4" Very Vanilla. After I fish-tailed the end using the Banner Triple Punch, I adhered it to the card front with Dimensionals.
Complete Supplies List—"Clear mount" is a rubber stamp to be used on a clear acrylic block, "Photopolymer" is the see-thru style of stamps, also used with acrylic blocks.
