Lovely Lattice Sponging On Vellum Cards
Yesterday, I shared how much fun it is coloring on vellum with Stampin' Blends Markers! If you love that look, but don't want to spend the time to color with markers, today's technique is the perfect alternative! These cards use Sponge Daubers to apply color to the back of the cardstock for a softer, more variegated look. Best of all, it's a super-fast coloring technique!
Lovely Focal Point—I started by stamping the Lovely Lattice image with clear VersaMark ink onto the right side of a 3-3/4" x 4" piece of Vellum cardstock. I sprinked on Black Stampin' Emboss Powder then set it with a Heat Tool until glossy & smooth. I show how to do this basic embossing on my Facebook LIVE replay around the 24-minute mark.
TIP: Rub an Embossing Buddy pad over your vellum before stamping to eliminate static and finger oils that the powder may stick to.
Sponging On Vellum—I flipped over the embossed vellum and added color onto the back using Sponge Daubers. For the flowers, I started in the center and sponged in small circles to move the ink toward the outer edges. For smaller areas like the leaves, I used the edge of my sponge. I didn't worry about going slightly outside the lines…I just wanted to add soft colors to highlight each parts of the image. TIP: I like to use a separate Sponge Dauber for each color, so I don't have to clean them in between.
I used these Classic Ink colors:
- Highland Heather on the largest flower, two smaller flowers & some buds
- Calypso Coral on two medium flowers & some buds
- Bermuda Bay on some small flowers & buds
- Old Olive on leaves & bud stems
Mounting the Vellum—I attached the vellum layer onto a 3-3/4" x 4" piece of Whisper White cardstock with a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive down the left side. You could also add a couple of Glue Dots under the flower centers, but you have to wait for the ink to dry a bit or they will not stick to the vellum.
Lovely Layers—I mounted the focal point layer onto a Bermuda Bay card base. Next, I adhered a 1-3/4" x 4" strip of the black & white checked design from the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper. Finally, I embossed a 1/2" x 4" strip of Pear Pizzazz cardstock with the Subtle Texture Impressions Folder and attached that with SNAIL where the papers meet to cover the adhesive showing through the vellum.
Sweet Sentiment—The Amazing Life sentiment was stamped in Bermuda Bay ink onto a 2-3/4" x 1/2" strip of Whisper White. I fishtail cut the end and popped it up onto the card front with Dimensionals.
Finishing Touches—I punched a Bermuda Bay bitty butterfly using the Butterfly Duet Punch, embossed it with the Subtle Texture Impressions Folder, then attached it to the card with a Glue Dot. I finished by adding some black Faceted Dots to the butterfly and next to the sentiment.
Sweet Sentiment—The only other difference was that I stamped the Amazing Life sentiment in Calypso Coral.
