Hi Stamping Friends!

I've got a fun little Spring treat today that you are going to LOVE!

M&m butterfly magnets - bunch

They are cute little butterfly clothespin M&M's treats that are also magnets!  I CASEd this idea from Carmen DeBruce, who brought the project to one of our Too Cool Demo Team shoebox swaps.

Demo meeting jan 2013 - carmen 1

Here is the project that Carmen brought for us to make to our swap.  We were making them for Valentine's Day, so the M&M's are in red packages.  She showed how to use the daisy image from the Mixed Bunch set and cut the top and bottom petals off for the butterfly.  We added crimped black card stock antennae, a 1/2" Circle Punch body from Silver Glimmer Paper, and googly eyes for a whimsical look!  Absolutely adorable!  It was a big hit at our swap!

Butterfly m&ms treat

My plan was to do them before Easter, so I purchased the Easter fun-size M&M's.  I love the light green color, and aside from the bunnies and chicks on the actual candies, it works for anytime during the Spring!

I started by covering the top of the clothespin with 2011-2013 In Color Designer Series Paper in Pool Party.  Clothespins sizes may vary, but mine was about 3/8" wide, and 3-1/4" long.  Use Multipurpose Glue for best results.

M&m butterfly magnets - magnet

Before decorating with the butterfly, or adding the M&M's, you'll want to adhere your magnet.

TIP: Magnet sheets work best, but the kind for business cards are not strong enough.  I opted for a 3M brand 1" wide magnet roll.

I cut the magnet to about 3" long and divided my 1" width into three strips. It's self-adhesive, but I found that I needed to add Multipurpose Glue to help it adhere to the wood.

TIP: Because my magnet was on a roll, the ends kept curling up and not sticking.  So, once I adhered it, I "stuck" the whole magnet clothespin onto my paper trimmer, which is a nice flat, metal surface, to let it dry.  Worked like a charm!

M&m butterfly magnets - 2

Michelle Hoover, who had recently used Carmen's idea at her own class, tipped me off that the more intricate image from Mixed Bunch made a very pretty butterfly, so I tried that.  I stamped on Pool Party card stock in VersaMark Ink, then embossed the design in White Embossing Powder.

After punching with the Blossom Punch, I snipped off two adjacent petals.  Michelle suggested that I try some Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine for the body.  So, I wrapped it around twice and tied it off at the top and trimmed it.  I LOVE that the ends stick up perfectly for little butterfly antennae!  Great idea, Michelle!

I adhered the butterfly to the clothespin with Dimensionals.  To add the M&M's, pinch the center of the bag together until there's no candies in the middle, then attach the clothespin. Adjust the "wings" of the bag as necessary.

Once the M&M's are gone, the magnet is still cute and makes the perfect magnetic note-holder!
