Hi Stamping Friends!

So, in the blink of an eye, all of the Christmas music is gone, the trash cans are filled with wrapping paper and the neighbors are already taking down their holiday lights.  I have a mixture of sadness and relief that Christmas is done for another year. 

But, I can tell you what makes me REALLY excited now that the holiday is over…I can start focusing wholeheartedly on the BRAND NEW!  New Year!  New Occasions Catalog!  New Sale-A-Bration freebies!  Woohoo!  I barely had time to wind down from all of the Christmas festivities before I was starting to get giddy with anticipation for all of the NEW stuff to come!  Yippeee!

Diagonals are a popular trend right now and I love the bold diagonal on this fun card design!  The sentiment makes a fabulous focal point next to a fun, colorful accent flower.  Best of all, it's super-easy to create!

Angled Background Basics—I started with a 4" x 4" piece of Back To Black Designer Series Paper, but you could certainly use any of your favorite DSP.  Then, it's just as simple as cutting a diagonal line across the square with your Stampin' Trimmer.  You'll want to keep these things in mind as you prepare your cut:

  • How steep do you want the angle to be?  A little tilt, or a lot?  Too steep will be difficult to read.
  • How far down the card do you want the sentiment to be?  Near the top or the bottom? 
  • How big is my sentiment?  I'm using larger sentiments, which work perfectly for the amount of space this size of DSP creates.  If you use a smaller sentiment, you may have to increase the original length of the paper to create a thinner diagonal line. Know what I mean?

You may want to do a practice piece with some scrap paper to make sure you're getting the angle you like.

Mounting The Background—Once the DSP was cut into two pieces, I added a bunch of Dimensionals to the back to pop it up on the Whisper White card base.

Sweet Sentiment—Next, I decided where I would like my flower accent to be and a positioned the Blooming With Kindness sentiment accordingly, inked with Memento Black Ink.

Fancy Flower Accent—I punched a Fancy Flower shape from Melon Mambo card stock and curled the petals with a Bone Folder.  A Petite Petal punch in Basic Black card stock is layered on top, and it's petals are also curled up.  The center is a Whisper White flower punch from the retired Itty Bitty Punch Pack, and it's topped with a Pearl Jewel.

For my second version, I chose a bit more color and this is the card we'll be creating at class.  I started with a Melon Mambo card base, and my Whisper White layer is 4" x 5-1/4".  That meant my DSP needed to be a bit smaller to start.

Skinnier Sentiment—This time, I started with a 3-3/4" wide x 4" long piece, so the width of my diagonal is a bit smaller.  I found a smaller sentiment from Lots of Thanks that worked perfectly in that space.

Petite Flower Accent—The smaller space also meant that I needed a smaller flower accent.  I punched the Petite Petals flower in Melon Mambo, then topped it with a Basic Black Itty Bitty Punch flower and Pearl Jewel.

I thought it needed just a little something more to fill the space, so I added Pear Pizzazz leaves punched from the Bird Builder Punch.  They are adhered with a 2-Way Glue Pen.  Perfect!
