Happy Scenes Autumn & Halloween Cards

I'm so excited to be sharing cards featuring the Happy Scenes stamps and Hearth & Home Thinlits at my upcoming class!  I was so disappointed that I had to cancel this Happy Scenes Stamp-of-the-Month class this month, because there were ongoing backorder issues on the Thinlits.

Good News!  It looks like the Hearth & Home Thinlits will now be in stock beginning November 9!  That means you'll still have plenty of time to create both autumn and winter scenes with the bundle!  Woohoo!

Happy scenes fall - fall 1CASEd from Dawn Griffith at Dawn's Stamping Thoughts.

Background Basics—Since we are looking through a window, I wanted to make the background look like a wallpapered interior wall with a chair rail.  I love how it turned out!  I wallpapered with Bohemian Designer Series Paper: 3-1/2" x 2-3/4" for the top piece and 3-1/2" x 2" for the bottom.  They are adhered with SNAIL onto a 3-5-/8" x 4-7/8" piece of Early Espresso card stock. Then all the layers are adhered to a Crumb Cake card base.

Window Die-Cutting—I used the Hearth & Home Thinlits to die-cut the window pane and windowsill from Soft Suede card stock.

Chair Rails—The chair rails are actually the top of the window die-cut.  I die-cut the top of the Hearth & Home Thinlit window on a scrap of Soft Suede, then trimmed it at the second "score" line, which is created automatically when it's die-cut.  I cut the piece in half and adhered each half along the DSP seam, as shown in the photo above.

Happy scenes fall - fall 2

Fall Scene—I stamped the Happy Scenes autumn scene in Memento Black ink onto a 2-3/4" x 3-1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock.

Sponging The Color—I sponged on Hello Honey ink over the top of the scene.  TIP: Take care to start sponging off the edge of the card stock, then rub in small circles up onto the card stock to avoid plopping down a big glob of ink that you can't blend in very well.

I added Tangelo Twist ink around the edges of the sky.  Then I sponged on Pear Pizzazz ink across the ground and added Soft Suede around the edges.

Coloring the Scene—I colored the pumpkins and some of the leaves with a Tangelo Twist marker.  The rest of the leaves were colored in Delightful Dijon and Soft Suede markers.

After everything was colored, I adhered the scene to the back of the window with SNAIL.

Happy scenes fall - fall 3

Windowsill Sentiment—I stamped a Happy Scenes sentiment onto the windowsill with Memento Black ink, then popped it up with Dimensionals.  Next, I cut a large gold Metallic Doily into thirds and adhered one of the pieces behind the window scene before popping all of the layers with more Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches—I tied a bow using both the Gold Cording Trim and a strand from the Burlap Ribbon for a little shine and texture!  It's adhered with a Glue Dot.

Two Cool—My second version has just a few changes to make it a Halloween card.

Happy scenes fall - halloween 3

Spooky Cobweb—I added a little spider in the corner this time before sponging.

Happy scenes fall - halloween 2

Black Cat & Sentiment—I die-cut the black cat shape from the Festive Fireside Framelits, then flipped it backwards so the cat was facing right. I stamped a different greeting to match the occasion, too!
