I love the double layer stamping on this cool, colorful spotlight card and it's so easy to create! This Lovely As A Tree bare trees image looks great for winter cards, and when you add some soft color, it makes it perfect for spring, too! The image makes great cards for birthday, sympathy, thinking of you, Father's Day and more!
Background Basics—I started with a vertically-folded card base using the Shimmery White cardstock for a subtle hint of shimmer all over. I adhered a 4-1/4" x 2-1/2" piece of Needlepoint Nook Designer Series Paper along the bottom of the card for a nice foundation.
Double Layer Stamping—To create the double layer of stamping, I started by cutting a 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" layer in Shimmery White cardstock and temporarily tacking it down directly to the card front. I positioned it where I wanted it to end up, then stamped the Lovely As A Tree image in StazOn black ink across the layer, with the image spilling over onto the card front. There will be a slight white gap where the image doesn't transfer right next to the square layer, but that will get covered up later by the black mat.
Watercolor Spotlight—I softly colored the focal point using Watercolor Pencils. You don't need to completely color the spaces, just lay down a little bit of color, then use a Blender Pen to smooth out, dissolve and blend the color into a light wash. The more color you add, the darker the blended color will be. Be careful not to blend too much, as the paper will start to pill. I used Old Olive for the grass, Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral and Rich Razzleberry for the trees and very light Pacific Point for the sky.
I adhered the watercolored layer onto a 3" x 3" Basic Black mat, tied some Old Olive 1/8" Sheer Ribbon around the layers and popped it up with Dimensionals.
Sweet Sentiment—I stamped a greeting from the retiring Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set in StazOn ink onto Shimmery White cardstock and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch. It's popped up with Dimensionals and accented with the retiring Artisan Pearls.
Two Cool—I created an identical card with the trees colored for the fall season.
Watercolor Spotlight—This time, I used Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Real Red and Pumpkin Pie for the tree colors. Instead of Artisan Pearls, I added Rhinestone Jewels that I colored with a Dark Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends Marker.
