Lovely Floral Sponged Birthday Cards
I fell in love with a Lovely Floral card that Janet Shinn created for our last Too Cool Team swap, so I knew I wanted to do something similar for this month's card class! Her card is the Grapefruit Grove one above and our class card is the blue one. I adore the way Janet sponged on the debossed side of the Lovely Floral pattern to soft & pretty focal point! I couldn't wait to try it out myself!
Background Basics—I started with a vertically-folded card base in Balmy Blue, then added a 4-1/4" x 3" strip of Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper along the bottom.
Lovely Layers—To create a foundation for the focal point, I adhered a 3" x 4-1/2" piece of Whisper White cardstock to the center of the card front. I fishtail cut the bottom of the 1-1/2" x 5-1/4" Mint Macaron cardstock, then ran it through the Big Shot using the new Subtle Texture Impressions Folder and adhered it onto the card front with SNAIL. That embossed pattern is so subtle that you can't even see what it is in the catalog, but it is SO PRETTY!
Here's a closer look. It's actually a linen-like texture that is similar to the textured cardstock that we used to have a few years back. Anyone remember that?
Delightful Details—For the focal point, I embossed the Whisper White layer with the Lovely Floral Texture Impressions Folder so that the "debossed" side was showing, leaving plenty of room for the sentiment at the bottom. Next, I punched the corner of the 2-5/8" x 4-1/8" piece of Whisper White with the new Detailed Trio Punch. That new punch also gives us a rounded corner punch and a ribbon slot punch all in one handy tool! I love how the Highland Heather layer shows through the punched details!
Sweet Sentiment—The greeting was stamped from the Detailed With Love stamp set, and inked in the Highland Heather ink.
Lovely Sponging—I sponged color onto the Lovely Floral pattern using Sponge Daubers with a light touch. The large flower is in Highland Heather, the small flowers are in Balmy Blue and the leaves are in Mint Macaron. I adhered the piece to a 3-3/4" x 4-1/4" piece of Highland Heather, then popped it up with Dimensionals.
Sensational Shimmer—I added some Wink of Stella shimmer to the center of the large flower, as well as the debossed outline of the flower. I also added a little to the blue flowers, too!
Too Cool—Janet Shinn created the original card that inspired my version above. She highlighted a couple of the new In Colors for her project.
Background Basics—Her card base was in Grapefruit Grove with a 2-7/8" x 4-3/8" piece of Very Vanilla for the background layer. The birthday greeting was stamped in Lovely Lipstick onto the 2-5/8" x 4-1/8" piece of Very Vanilla. It's layered onto a 2-3/4" x 4-1/4" piece of Lovely Lipstick cardstock.
Sponging—Janet sponged her Lovely Floral texture with Grapefruit Grove and Lovely Lipstick inks, and adorned the flowers with some Rhinestone Jewels.

Gorgeous cards. I have been working with one of my customers trying to get the same results. I think we were too critical with the look. I will try using the daubers again with a lighter touch and also your colors are just lovely. I needed an excuse to get that Highland Heather color of ink and the Balmy Blue! Also, the little punch out part is another cute detail but that can wait until later. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
They are absolutely beautiful I now for sure know what I am going to be doing this afternoon. Thanks for showing these beauties.
