Another fun ribbon flower technique today, which I found was pretty easy, even for me!
You see, I don't sew. I usually shy away from anything that has to do with a thread and needle. If a button comes off, a hem comes undone, a seam rips…I'm heading to Kohl's for a replacement, rather than mess with any of it. I'm not ashamed to admit this.
But, Dawn Griffith's Ribbon Flower tutorial gave me the confidence I needed, and I slip-stitched the cutest little grosgrain ribbon flower to adorn a Matchbox filled with Miniatures…
Isn't the flower absolutely darling! And, it looks so cute on top of the Matchbox I created with the Bigz XL Matchbox Die.
Stitched Ribbon Flower
I used 12" of 5/8" So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon (an old Sell-A-Bration item). I used piece of knotted Linen Thread (you can use any thread) to create a 1/4" slip-stitch along the edge of the ribbon. Pull the ribbon tightly to gather it and connect the ends with one stitch. Check out Dawn's video to see it in action.
I added a Rhinestone Brad to the center, then attached it to the box top with a Pop-Up Glue Dot.
Matchbox Details
The die really does all the work for you in this project. You don't even need to glue the box—it folds together to create a sturdy base. The box is made with Certainly Celery and the box cover is made with the Tea Party Designer Series Paper. I used 1-1/2" x 3-1/4" pieces of coordinating Tea Party paper to cover the Hershey's Miniatures—four fit perfectly inside!
