Q: What do you get when you take a plain old composition notebook and let Michelle Hoover dress it up?
A: Something fabulous!
Wow! What an awesome, monogrammed journal! Too cool!
Michelle had this as a project at one of her recent events and it was a huge hit! Due to time limits, they only covered the front, but you could easily decorate the back, too!
Covering The Book: To cover the front, Michelle recommends using a spray adhesive to make sure all the edges are securely adhered. She wanted to use the book's original spine, so that was covered with painter's tape to mask it off while spraying on the adhesive. TIP: Be sure to use spray adhesive in a well-ventilated area, and cover surrounding surfaces to protect from overspray.
Michelle cut a piece of Love Letter Designer Series Paper a little bit bigger than the area she wanted to cover (about 1/8" hanging over the edge), then trimmed the paper to size once it was in place. For a finished look, she sanded the edges with a Sanding Block. Sanding also keeps the edges from curling up.
To Get Michelle's Look:
- The Basic Black piece is embossed with Vintage Wallpaper Impressions Folder. She also used the Corner Rounder before embossing.
- She adhered the Real Red 5/8' Satin Ribbon with Sticky Strip.
- She cut out the Notably Ornate lined image, then sponged with Black ink to soften the edges.
- The round red emblem is from Artistic Etchings; the "M" is from Jumble Alphabet.
- The Fun Flowers Die was used to create the paper flower. TIP: Add Dimensionals between each petals layer for a more, well, "dimensional" flower.
Thanks for sharing your altered composition book, Michelle!
Wishing you a Too Cool day!

WOW – very pretty. The colors remind me of Minnie Mouse – would be a nice notebook for a Disney trip.
