Oh So Lovely Oh So Eclectic Collage Cards

When I approach a collage card, I like to break it down into three basic layers: the background, the focal point and the filler.  Focusing on each piece of the collage puzzle separately helps make it less intimidating for me.  It reminds me of a little rhyming phrase that gardeners use when designing a large container of flowers.  They look for the Thriller (large, bold focal point), the Filler (medium-size elements that surround and enhance the Thriller) and the Spiller (the elements that cascade over the sides of the planter, or in this case the background of the card).

The Spiller—I started this card by die-cutting a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White card stock with the pretty diamonds thinlit, creating a window layer.  Next, I stamped the Oh So Eclectic crosshatch leaf image in Emerald Envy onto the bottom left corner to start creating part of the "Filler" layers.

I layered some of the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper in a Night of Navy gradation behind the window, then adhered it to a 3-5/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Night of Navy Card stock.  It's mounted onto a Berry Burst card base.

The Thriller—I created my layered bloom focal point by stamping the Oh So Eclectic flower in Peekaboo Peach onto Whisper White, then die-cutting that with the Eclectic Layers thinlits.  I also die-cut an intricate Berry Burst flower by combining the same outline die with the intricate inside flower "window" die.  Both of the flowers are the same size with identical shapes, so I could have positioned the edges to line up flush, but I liked it better a little off-set to add a interest.

TIP: Use the Precision Base Plate with the Big Shot for cleanly cut die-cuts!

I topped the flower with a flower center stamped in Night of Navy, and die-cut that as well.  It's adhered with a Glue Dot and brushed with Wink of Stella clear for a little glimmer!

The Filler—I stamped another cross-hatch leaf in Lemon Lime Twist onto Whisper White and stamped the watercolor style leaf in the same color onto Lemon Lime Twist card stock.  Both are die-cut with the Eclectic Layers leaf thinlit and attached to the card front with Glue Dots, or Multipurpose Glue.

I added a strand of the Mini Gold Sequin Trim with a Glue Dot.  I love the new sequins!  The mini circles are a little more dainty than the previous Gold Sequin Trim (now retired), so the strands are perfect for dangling from cards, tags, bags & boxes to add a shine!

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy onto a 5/8" wide strip of Pool Party cardstock, then trimmed the end into a fishtail with super-sharp Paper Snips.  It's adhered to the underside of the flower with SNAIL, then the whole focal point/greeting is popped up with Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches—I added some floating Pearl Jewels around the collage, too!

Two Cool—My second card uses the same basic elements with a different color scheme and a horizontal orientation.

I layered a different Emerald Envy DSP pattern behind the diamond windows, and mounted the background onto a Fresh Fig card base.

This time, I stamped the watercolor flower in Berry Burst, layered a Fresh Fig die-cut over the top and added a Peekaboo Peach stamped flower center.  So sweet!
