You may have noticed that I have a tendency to create elegant, vintage or flowery cards, but I enjoy a little whimsy now and then! Like today's two cool cards design that we'll be creating at my "Last Thursdays" card class on August 30…
The new Core'dinations card stock and Woodgrain Impressions Folder create the perfect background for these adorable, punch-art owls! Meet Oliver and Sebastian!
I started with a strip of my favorite pattern from the Orchard Harvest Designer Series Paper pack—love that color combination! I used a Lucky Lime card base with a Cherry Cobbler Scallop Border accent (it's actually Raspberry Ripple in that plaid…oops, I just realized!).
I punched the 1-3/4" Circle from the Early Espresso Core'dinations card stock first, then ran it through the Big Shot in the Woodgrain Impressions Folder. Using the new Stampin' Sanding System, I very lightly sanded the embossed pattern. Careful! The Core'dinations card stock will tear easily after being embossed.
Once all the background pieces were adhered to the card front, I punched the complete window from the card base, using the previously punched window as a guide.
The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, inked in Island Indigo, and punched with the Modern Label Punch.
Oliver Owl was punched from Soft Suede card stock, then dressed in a matching Orchard Harvest vest. I used Crumb Cake for the outer eyes (and should have tried some Googly Eyes for even more personality!). He also has a More Mustard heart beak and Cherry Cobbler heart embellishment.
When you open the card, Oliver is sitting on a branch from the Bird Punch! Cute!
Sebastian is a little more laid back…and he's in love, as noted by the Tiny Tags sentiment in Island Indigo ink and punched with the Little Labels Punch.
I added some sleepy, half-circle eyelids to him, and he seems older and wiser. You can really see how awesome the popped up eyes look here!
