Playful Palette Woven Paper Cards

Hi Stamping Friends!

Every paper crafter falls into one of two categories when it comes to Designer Series Paper scraps: the Pitcher and the Keeper!  Which one are you?  How small of a piece is too small to keep?  Is every piece usable?

Well, truthfully, I'm more of a Pitcher, but I do like to keep long & skinny scraps of DSP so I can make cards like the ones I'm sharing today—Woven Paper Cards!  It gives you a good reason (justification) to be a Keeper!

Playful Palette Woven Paper Cards

Use up coordinating paper scraps by creating a little piece of woven art for the front of a card!  It's a great way to highlight all of those lovely double-sided Designer Series Paper patterns!

Woven paper - emerald 1

Background BasicsI adhered a 1-1/2"x 5-1/8" piece of Sweet Sugarplum card stock to a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" layer of Very Vanilla card stock.  I stamped a greeting from the Watercolor Wings stamp in Memento Black Ink set near the bottom.  It was layered onto a 4" x 5-1/4" Emerald Envy mat, then mounted onto a Basic Black card base.

Woven paper - emerald 2

Woven Paper Focal PointI started with six 3/4" x 6" strips of different patterns of paper from the same Designer Series Paper stack, so they all coordinate. I used strips from the Playful Palette 6×6" DSP stack.

Weaving TIPS—I laid out the papers to alternate between bold and busy patterns, then started weaving, adhering as I went along.

  • Start with the two center strips by adhering them together in a "plus" shape.
  • Then continue adding the outer strips, adhering with SNAIL as you go.
  • Trim the ends of each strip in staggered lengths that are visually appealing.

Finishing TouchesI popped up the woven paper with Dimensionals, so it looks like a mounted piece of artwork.  I added a Basic Black Bitty Butterfly punched shape with a couple of Glue Dots in the center.  Next, I decorated the butterfly with some Pearl Jewels, then bent the wings a little.  I also added some floating Pearls around the paper weave.

Two CoolMy second version also uses strips from the Playful Palette DSP, but I stuck with the lighter Peekaboo Peach, Blushing Bride and Sweet Sugarplum patterns for a completely different look.

Woven paper - sugarplum 2

This time I started with a Tip Top Taupe card base, and included Sweet Sugarplum and Sahara Sand layers for a soft neutral backdrop.  The butterfly is in Tip Top Taupe.  The sentiment is another greeting from the Watercolor Wings stamp set.
