Poinsettia Petals Happy Holidays Cards

Oooh…I'm loving these pretty poinsettia flowers in traditional Christmas red! I spotlighted them against the backdrop of the more subtle patterns from the Poinsettia Place Designers Series Paper pack and designed a fun opening.

Background Basics—This card base begins with a 8-3/4" x 4-1/4" piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock, scored at the 3-1/4" mark. I added a 3" x 4" piece of that Poinsettia Place DSP on the front panel.

Fun Opening—I decorated the inside right of the card with a 2-1/2" x 4" piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock that was embossed with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder. I cut two pieces of 3-3/4" x 2-1/2" Whisper White cardstock and adhered one of them on the inside of the card for the message area. I mounted it in the center of the inside and it will be hidden by the card front center panel.

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped a Poinsettia Petals sentiment in Shaded Spruce ink on the bottom right corner of the other piece of Whisper White. It's mounted onto a 4" x 2-3/4" piece of Shaded Spruce, then popped up with Dimensionals onto the card front, so it overlaps the inside message panel.

Finishing Touches—I added a couple of Gilded Gems on the inside layer so it shows through when the card is closed.

Pretty Poinsettia—I created the beautiful flower using the Poinsettia Dies, cutting the three Real Red layers with a combination of the outline dies and the embossing dies. You can run them together through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and the result is amazing! They look so real! I gently curved the petals and bent them up, layering them together with Glue Dots. I also added the large and small Poinsettia Dies leaves die-cuts in Garden Green to match the DSP. I finished by die-cutting a small flower center in Gold Foil and attaching it with a Glue Dot.

Two Cool—For the second version of this card, I switched out the Shaded Spruce card base with Soft Suede. That neutral color really puts the poinsettia flower front and center!
