Swap card created by Jeanne Ciolli.Jeanne's Painted Poppies 3-Layer Watercolor Card
Is this card gorgeous, or what?! I received it as a swap card from Jeanne Ciolli and was blown away by the awesome watercolor background! It looks so artistic and it's actually easier to re-create than you might imagine!
Watercolor Background Basics—Jeanne's card begins with a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of Shimmery White cardstock, scored at the 5-1/2" mark. Shimmery White is a lovely surface for this watercolor wash technique because it has a smooth finish and the ink flows so nicely. It's also has a subtle sparkliness to the pattern that shows through the watercoloring!
She used an Aqua Painter to add swooshes of color to the card front in Pool Party and Granny Apple Green refill inks.
Next, she die-cut a couple of Shimmery White layers using the Stitched Rectangle Dies and added more washes of color over the entire die-cuts. Finally, she flicked some water droplets over all of the painted pieces, let them set for a few minutes, then lightly blotted the excess water from the pieces. She allowed them to dry completely before adding any of the stamping. TIP: She said if you lightly add some water to the backs of the pieces with an Aqua Painter, the cardstock will dry flat.
Sweet Sentiment—Once completely dry, Jeanne stamped a Peaceful Moments sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink across the bottom of the card front.
Painted Poppy—Jeanne stamped the Painted Poppies flower onto the smallest rectangle with Memento Black, then colored in the bloom with Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends Markers.
Finishing Touches—She filled in the stem with a Stampin' Write Black Marker, drew in some grass and added some little dots, too. How cute and easy! She popped up the layers onto the card front with Dimensionals and added a few Rhinestone Jewels. Love, love, LOVE this card! Thanks for sharing, Jeanne!

Betsy Crider also sent me a beautiful swap card featuring the Painted Poppies stamp set and a shimmery watercolor technique! I adore the look of this card!
Watercolor Basics—Betsy's focal point begins with a 3" x 4" piece of Watercolor Paper. She stamped the Painted Poppies flowers and leaves randomly over the entire piece, then used her Aqua Painter and refill inks to add flowing color to the images. She colored the blooms with Poppy Parade and the leaves with Mossy Meadow. She also added some highly diluted Flirty Flamingo coloring between the images.
Fancy Flecks—Betsy added some amazing shimmering texture by dipping her Aqua Painter in Frost White Shimmer Paint and splattering it across the images. It looks like she also added some Champagne Shimmer Mist to a Spritzer filled with rubbing alcohol to lightly mist the entire piece with shimmer, too! It looks AMAZING in real life!
Once it was completely dry, she mounted the stamped layer onto a 3-1/4" x 4-1/4" piece of Basic Black and mounted it onto a Thick Whisper White card base.
Sweet Sentiment—Betsy stamped a coordinating sentiment from the Perennial Birthday stamp set in VersaMark ink onto a 3" x 1/2" piece of Basic Black, sprinkled on White Embossing Powder and heat set with a Heat Tool until glossy and smooth. It's popped up with Dimensionals. She finished by adding a few Peaceful Poppies Sequins with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
