Quick & Cool—Rita’s Lace Tape Masking

I've got another fun card to share with you from our Too Cool Demo Team's Shoebox Swap.  Our theme was "quick & cool techniques" and Rita Berning shared Two Cool techniques on her project…that's my girl!  😀

CASEd from Josee Smuck at StampingJo.

First, Rita showed us a versatile way to use the Delicate Details Lace Tape as a mask to create a beautiful patterned background!  We used a blend of Pool Party and Island Indigo Ink on Whisper White card stock.

Quick & Cool Technique #1—Lace Tape Masking

  • Cut 2 strips of Lace Tape the length of your card stock and adhere them side-by-side.
  • Select a light and a dark shade of ink.
  • Using a Sponge Dauber, start sponging the lighter color on at one end of the strips and continue to the half-way point.  Finish sponging the strips with another Sponge Dauber in the darker color.  TIP: For best results, focus on sponging the first strip, and only to the center of the second strip.  If you try to sponge too much of the second strip, you could inadvertently be sponging into the next masking area.  Trust me!
  • Pull up the first strip and place it on the other side of the second strip, then continue sponging.
  • Continue this "leap frog" method of rotating the tape to mask the next section until you're done.

For more details, you can see a fantastic video tutorial on this card design by Josee Smuck.

The sentiment is from Oh, Hello and is embossed in White Embossing Powder on a piece of 2-3/4" x 1-1/2" Island Indigo card stock.  The Corner Rounder Punch was used on two corners.

Rita added a fun twist on the Designer Build-A-Brad, too!  She embossed it with Pool Party Embossing Powder for a faux patina look!  You KNOW I love me some faux patina!  Woohoo!

Quick & Cool Technique #2—Embossed Build-A-Brad

  • Dab the top of the brad into a VersaMark Ink Pad.
  • Sprinkle heavily with Pool Party Embossing Powder.
  • Hold the brad with tweezers (it gets HOT!) and heat with the Heat Tool undtil smooth!
  • Add the self-adhesive bubble to the middle.

Thanks so much for sharing this double-cool card idea, Rita!
