Hi Stamping Friends!

Yesterday, we had washi tape peeking out from under an intricate die-cut.  Today, I have a couple cards from Janet Shinn that show how you can use washi tape and more under a recessed window die-cut shape!

But first…

Baby’s First Recessed Washi Tape Buggy Card

Oh how cute!  Janet Shinn created this adorable baby card using the fun recessed window technique.  It’s so easy, too!

Background Washi—Janet started with a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock for the decorated piece. She wrapped a strip of the Watermelon Wonder 5/8″ Striped Ribbon around the middle of the piece, then covered the rest of the layer with Playful Palette Washi Tape.  It’s adhered to the center of a Whisper White card base.

Sweet Sentiment Window Layer—Next, Janet die cut a buggy shape from a 4-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Whisper White using the Baby’s First Framelits and rounded the corners with the Project Life Corner Rounder Punch.  Then, she stamped the Made With Love greeting next to the window with Sweet Sugarplum ink, then popped up the entire layer using LOTS of Dimensionals.  Totally sweet & totally easy!

Complete Supplies List—”Clear” means a rubber stamp on a clear block. “Photopolymer” is see-thru.

Hello Leaflets Recessed Watercolor Window Card

Janet tried the same recessed window technique on second card ( two cool!). This time she opted for a beautiful watercolor background to show through!  How lovely and perfect for a fall card!

Background Watercolor—Janet started with a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Watercolor Paper this time. There are a couple of ways you can get the watercolor blend.  I like wetting the paper with a Stampin’ Spritzer first, then adding color with Aqua Painters.  I get my ink by squeezing the ink pad before opening it to transfer the ink to the lid, which becomes a palette.  You could also use the Aqua Painters with drops of refill inks and start with dry paper for more intense colors.

It looks like Janet used Peekaboo Peach, Watermelon Wonder & Garden Green inks here, but I encourage you to experiment with lots of different color blends.  Get artsy!

Once the watercolor paper was completely dry, Janet adhered it to the Whisper White card base.  TIP: Use a Heat Tool on the lowest setting to help speed up drying time.  Adhesive won’t stick to damp paper, so it needs to be completely dry!

Window Layer—Just like the previous card, Janet die cut the leaf shape from a 4-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Whisper White using the Leaflets Framelits and rounded the corners with the Project Life Corner Rounder Punch.  She tied some Peekaboo Peach Ruched Ribbon around it, then popped it up with lots of Dimensionals.

Sweet Sentiment—The greeting is from the Banners For You stamp set.  Janet curved the photopolymer stamp on the acrylic block before stamping it in Garden Green onto Whisper White card stock.  It’s punched with the Duet Banner Punch and popped up with more Dimensionals.
