I did a CASE (copy and share everything) of one of my old cards today using the brand new Sailing Home stamp set. You can see that Traveler Masked & Blended Card here. I thought the nautical images from Sailing Home would be perfect for this style of card!
Background Basics—I started this card with a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White. I masked off all but a 1" strip of that layer and sponged on Balmy Blue, Pool Party and Seaside Spray inks to create an eye-catching color blend foundation for my focal point. You can see how I did it on the Facebook LIVE video, but here are the basic steps…
Masking & Blending Basics—I cut two Whisper White masks, each measuring about 2-1/2" x 6-1/2". It doesn't matter what size it is, as long as it extends longer than the piece you're masking. I tacked the masks about 1" apart onto my cardstock layer with a couple of dabs of SNAIL adhesive. If you have temporary adhesive, use it instead. Since I didn't have any, I just used dabs of SNAIL, then rubbed the sticky areas across my jeans a couple of times to take some of the sticky off.
Hold the masks in place with your fingers for extra security, then sponge on color using Sponge Daubers in a back & forth motion that's parallel to the mask edges. I added Balmy Blue ink to one end, Pool Party ink to the other end and blended Seaside Spray in the middle. I continued to add layers of Seaside Spray ink until the blend was smooth. Lift the masks and remove any residual adhesive with an adhesive remover.
Stamped Images—I stamped the large Sailing Home sailboat in Night of Navy ink first, near the bottom, leaving some room for the twine. Then, I stamped the smaller sailboat image above it in Night of Navy ink. I finished by adding the seagulls and sentiment at the top of the card, also in Night of Navy.
I colored the sailboats with Light Crumb Cake, Light Balmy Blue and Light Pool Party Stampin' Blends Markers. I like giving the boats just a little extra pop of color to help them stand out.
Lovely Layering—Next, I adhered the layer onto a 3-5/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Seaside Spray cardstock. I tied some of the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker's Twine around both layers, fraying the ends, then popped up the whole thing onto a Night of Navy card base with Dimensionals.
Finishing Touches—I colored three Rhinestone Jewels with Dark Night of Navy and Dark Pool Party Stampin' Blends, then added them floating around the boats for a little sparkle.
Two Cool—For the second card, I blended Seaside Spray, Pool Party and Crumb Cake ink for the color panel. I stamped the Sailing Home lighthouse and sentiment over the top of it in Night of Navy. Looking at it now, I would have also added some of those seagulls, too.
I finished the card in the same way as the first, mounting the stamped layer onto Soft Suede this time.
This would be a lovely masculine anniversary card or Father's Day card from the wife. Or, change the sentiment for lots of other occasions.
