Simply Zinnias Pocket Cards
I received a delightful swap card from Karla Neeld recently that I could not wait to CASE for this class! It was a cool pocket card and it was designed to hold a packet of seeds…and in this case it was a packet of Zinnia seed! Just perfect! Here is my version and her original card is shown below.
Background Basics
The pocket card base begins with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of Berry Burst cardstock, scored at the 1-3/4″ and 7-1/4″ marks. After folding the top and bottom panels so create a gate-fold card, I decorated the panels with Flowering Zinnias Designer Series Paper: 4″ x 1-1/2″ for the top panel and 4″ x 3-1/2″ for the bottom section.
Inside Pocket (watch the video to see step-by-step)
I cut a 3-1/2″ x 6-1/4″ piece of Lemon Lime Twist and scored that at the 1/2″ and 5-1/4″ marks along the long side. I folded it into a Z. The 1″ fold becomes the pocket pull the the pop up style message on the inside. The 1/2″ tab is glued onto the inside top flap with the edge of the cardstock next to the score line of the fold of the Berry Burst card base. I encourage you to check out the video linked above to see this in action, as it is difficult to describe.
Next, I created a large pocket for that pull-up pocket mechanism. I adhered the sides of the bottom panel with a very thin, light bead of Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
Front Focal Point
I wanted a simple focal point, so I stamped the Simply Zinnias flower trio image in Memento Tuxedo Black onto a 2-1/2″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Basic White. I colored in the flowers with Stampin’ Blends Markers: Lemon Lime Twist for the stems and leaves, Pumpkin Pie for the flowers and Lemon Lolly for the stamens.
I layered this onto a 2-3/4″ x 4″ piece of Berry Burst cardstock and popped it up onto the short top flap with Dimensionals. I finished with a few Berry Burst Shiny Sequins accents.
No sentiment on the front…that was not an easy thing for me to do!
Pocket Pull-Up Inside
With the Lemon Lime Twist pull-up attached to the top card flap, it pulls up the pocket as you open the card. In the kit, I’m including a piece of Basic White cardstock for a message that can be slipped in the pocket. But, I wanted to share the awesome idea that Karla had of putting a Zinnia seed packet in the pocket. Just brilliant! Sorry, I am not including seed packets in my kit.
Sweet Sentiment
I stamped the Simply Zinnias sentiment in Old Olive onto a 4″ x 3/4″ piece of Basic White and adhered it to the top flap. It says, “Sending flowers and thinking of you.” How perfect!! Thanks so much to Karla for this Too Cool idea! Here is her card…
Two Cool
Karla Neeld sent this awesome card to me and it inspired my class card. Her card starts with an Old Olive Card base that she decorated with Flowering Zinnias DSP and a cool scalloped edge from some dies that have already retired.
Focal Point Accents
I love how Karla cut out flowers and leaves directly from the Flowering Zinnias DSP to pop up onto the card front. She also used the Simply Zinnias Dies to make a little Lemon Lime Twist and Real Red die-cut flower accent on the top.
Her Real Red sentiment is stamped onto a 4-1/4″ x 3/4″ strip of Basic White. She used some Shiny Sequins, as well.
