Sweet Flower Patch With Slanted Typeset Paper

Events & Specials Quick Links!

Hi Stamping Friends!

I'm so excited because I get to stamp with my Too Cool Demo Team tonight!  Woohoo!  This time of year is always my favorite for stamping because we're gearing up for the release of the new Holiday Catalog on August 28.  That means tonight we'll be talking about our favorite Holiday Catalog items, sharing ideas for holiday events, and trying out some of the new stuff with a few make & takes.  So much fun!

Several of the team members are also having a birthday card swap, and I can't wait to see what everyone created!  Today, I'm sharing the Too Cool card that I'll be swapping…

Slanted - two cool

My cards feature the Flower Patch Photopolymer stamp set and a fun little technique of stamping on slanted Typeset Designer Series Paper!

I CASEd these cards from Lyssa Zwolanek at Song of My Heart Stampers; the first one is a nearly identical copy, then I changed up the color scheme for the second card.  I LOVE them both!

Slanted Typeset DSP—It's a simple technique, but that newsprint pattern tilted on the diagonal gives a whole new level of sweetness to this card.  Lyssa said that she found this cute look on a Convention display board and she shared how to create it on her blog: Slanted Typeset DSP Tutorial

Flower Patch Stamping—I followed Lyssa's tutorial to create my slanted paper, then cut my Typeset piece to 3-1/4" x 4-1/2".  I stamped on it with the flower-builder images from the Flower Patch set using the following colors: Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe, Strawberry Slush and Wild Wasabi.

Photopolymer TIP #1: When inking up a photopolymer stamp on the firm foam ink pads, be careful not to push too hard into the pad.  Sometimes that will create a suction when you lift the stamp from the pad and it will draw the ink off of part of the stamp.  Instead, you want to ink it up just like it's recommended to do for every stamp with the firm foam pad…lightly tap, tap, tap.

Photopolymer TIP #2: Sometimes, I have trouble getting a clean, clear image with the larger, solid photopolymer stamps.  I've found that it helps to stamp on a softer work surface, like the Piercing Mat.  That gives it just the right amount of cushion for full contact between the image and paper.  If you don't have a foam mat, try a catalog, magazine or a stack of copy paper.

Background Layers—I adhered the Typeset paper to a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of Strawberry Slush.  I punched a decorative edge in a scrap strip of Very Vanilla with the Scallop Edge Border Punch and adhered it to the back before mounting the layers on the Coastal Cabana card base.

Blooming Sentiment Details—I stamped the Flower Patch sentiment in Strawberry Slush onto a 3-1/2" x 5/8" piece of Crisp Cantaloupe that I fish-tailed on the end.  Before adhering, I added a strip of the retired Coastal Cabana Ruffle Stretch Trim (I still love that ribbon!).

Sweet Details—I loved the way that Lyssa added a Very Vintage Button right where the center of the flower is positioned.  I tried to tie some Silver Baker's Twine through the button, but let me save you some time…don't.  I had a heck of a time threading the twine because it always caused the silver thread to unravel.  Instead, I simply tied a small bow and adhered it to the center with a Glue Dot.  Faux tying works for me!

The only thing I changed on this card was to add two cute Itty Bitty Accents punched flowers, one in Coastal Cabana and one in Strawberry Slush, adorned with Pearls.  So very sweet!

"Last Thursdays" Alert!  I'll be doing the first version of this card at my upcoming "Last Thursdays" class on August 28.  (Hey, that's the same date that the Holiday Catalog products are available!)

Slanted - wisteria

I love this card design so much and I wanted to do it for both my team swap card and my upcoming class, but I have a few stamping friends who would be participating in both, so I created a second version for the swap.

Slanted - wisteria 3

This one is stamped with Coastal Cabana, Wisteria Wonder, Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi.

Slanted - wisteria 2

This time, since I wanted to use all current products in my demonstrator swap, I changed the ribbon to Wisteria Wonder Seam Binding, adding a fish-tail end for a double-banner look.

So, which color combination do you like most?  Leave me a message in the comments at the bottom of my original post.
