Snow Place "Snow Way" Penguin Note Pad

I like to give my Too Cool Team a little gift at each of our monthly events.  This month, I decorated little scratch pads for a super-cute stocking stuffer project.  I featured the sweet penguin from the whimsical Snow Place photopolymer stamp set.  I don't do a lot of whimsical projects, but I couldn't resist this set with a penguin and snowman and more than a dozen little accessories to decorate them. It's like a wintery & festive version of paper dolls!  Oh, what fun!

Note Pad Basics—I patterned this project after one I created last year for my Monogrammed Gift Set class. I used Office Depot 3" x 5" Scratch Pads, which come in a pack of 12.  For different 3" x 5" scratch pads, you may have to adjust the scoring depending on the thickness of the paper or how many sheets are included.

Note Pad Cover How-Tos

  • Start with a 10-1/2" x 3-1/4" piece of card stock.  I used Tip Top Taupe.
  • Score along the 10-1/2" side at the 5-1/16" and 5-7/16" marks.  TIP: I used the Simply Scored tool, which only scores at 1/8" increments. Simply move the left edge of your card stock in-between the edge of the board and the first 1/8" groove, then score on the 5-1/8" and 5-1/2" marks.  Fold and crease.
  • Add Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the scratch pad down each of the 5" sides.
  • Adhere the pad to the inside of the cover flush to the fold.  You should have about 1/8" of cardstock showing on the remaining three sides.
  • Add another piece of Tear & Tape Adhesive on glue strip at the top of the pad and adhere the spine of the cover to that.  This will help to keep the cover closed.
  • Add magnet strips to the back.  I adhered two 4-1/2" strips of 1/2" wide magnetic tape.
  • Decorate!

Background Layers—I started with a 2-5/8" x 4-3/8" piece of Whisper White that I stamped all over with the Snow Place snowflakes in Soft Sky ink.  I used the new Curvy Corner Trio Punch to make the pretty decorative corner scallops, then mounted the layer on a 2-3/4" x 4-1/2" piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock.  That is mounted on a 3" x 4-3/4" piece of Lost Lagoon card stock, then adhered to the Tip Top Taupe note pad cover.

Penguin Pieces—I stamped this little guy in Memento Black Ink onto Whisper White and colored in his feet and beak with a Calypso Coral Marker.  The scarf was stamped in Cherry Cobbler and the earmuffs in Lost Lagoon.  No need to fussy-cut these pieces!  I let the coordinating Snow Friends Framelits do all the work!  So fast & easy!  Each of the pieces is popped with Dimensionals.  I added one Rhinestone to the scarf.

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the phrase in Memento Black ink onto a 3" x 1" piece of Soft Sky card stock and popped that up with Dimensionals, too.  It's accented with Rhinestone Jewels.

Complete Supplies List—"Clear" means a rubber stamp on a clear block. "Photopolymer" is see-thru.
