Hi Stamping Friends!
We had our Too Cool Team shoebox swap this week and, as always, we created some fabulous projects! Each team member brought a shoebox full of supplies for the rest of us to make a project using at least one thing from the Occasions Catalog.
Kathe Madsen brought a beautiful spring basket for us all to create! Check it out!
Oooh! So pretty! Wouldn't this make a lovely spring centerpiece? I can think of lots of ways to use it: on your Easter table, as bridal showers party favors, as a door prize for a women's group luncheon, just to name a few!
Stamping The Berry Basket—My favorite part of this project is the gorgeous Berry Basket itself. The basket is made by die-cutting two pieces with the Berry Basket Die. We used the lightweight chipboard that comes in a pack of Designer Series Paper for a super-sturdy base. Before assembling, we stamped the Something Lacy background stamp in Melon Mambo on each side of the basket. I absolutely adore this background stamp because it makes the background look like decorative paper!
TIP: When using the DSP chipboard, stamp on the matte side of the chipboard, not the smooth side. It takes the ink longer to dry on the smooth side and you risk smudging it.
Assembling The Basket Bottom—The two pieces of the basket are scored to create opposite sides of the basket. Simply overlap two pieces in a criss-cross way, adhere them together with Fast Fuse Adhesive, and fold up the sides.
Basket Border & Final Assembly—The Berry Basket Die also cuts a cute scalloped border that we made in Melon Mambo card stock. Cut two of the borders, fold on the score lines and adhere together with Fast Fuse. To attach the border to the basket, simply lay the border upside-down on the table, and position the basket upside-down inside the border. Then, flip it upright and staple a couple times on each side to hold it all in place.

Basket Décor—Kathe created the look of a doily by die-cutting a Whisper White flower with the Floral Frames Framelit. The flower was cut it in half and embossing it with the Spring Flowers Texture Impressions Folder to create a pretty foundation for the butterfly.
Butterfly Layers—The butterfly is die-cut with the Butterfly Thinlits. The larger one is die-cut from Champagne Glimmer Paper, and he smaller one is die-cut from Vellum card stock then embossed with the Decorative Dots folder for a fun texture.
I decorated the center of the butterfly with a Very Vintage Designer Button and a White Baker's Twine bow. All of the butterfly layers and embellishments are attached with Glue Dots.
Silk Flowers—Kathe brought a variety of silk flowers for us to choose from to fill our baskets. We positioned three stems in a small block of green florist's styrofoam. TIP: Add a little Sticky Strip to the bottom of the styrofoam to keep it securely in place.
Sweet Sentiment—Next, we added a sentiment to a 5" wooden skewer. The sentiment is from Butterfly Basics, stamped in Melon Mambo ink on Whisper White and die-cut with the Chalk Talk Framelits. We die-cut another Melon Mambo layer to cut in half and reposition along the sides for a colorful layer, And, we die-cut another Whisper White layer to wrap around the back of the skewer. Adhere the front and back layers together with Glue Dots on the sides, then slide over the end of the stick.
TIP: You may need to add another Glue Dot to the stick to keep the greeting securely in place.
Basket Grass—Kathe created some soft, crinkly grass for us to fill the bottoms of the baskets. To make the grass strips, she rolled up some Filter Paper (or coffee filters) and cut all along the roll about 1/4" apart. Then she spritzed the filter strips with a mixture of Wild Wasabi Refill Ink and rubbing alcohol. What a great basket filler!
