Happy Scenes Stamp-of-the-Month Class Canceled—I've had to make the difficult decision to cancel this month's Stamp-of-the-Month class.  I was already behind on creating the projects, but then I learned that the Hearth & Home Framelits that coordinate with the stamps will be on back order until early December. Since that window die-cut goes hand-in-hand with the seasonal Happy Scenes images, I couldn't justify continuing the class. I'm so disappointed and I'm very sorry if you were looking forward to this kit.  We'll pick up the Stamp-of-the-Month series again next month with the Peaceful Pines stamp set.

Lots of Joy With Pillow-Top Background

For today's projects, I tried the quaint Pillow-Top background technique.  It is reminiscent of the quilted pattern on a pillow-top mattress and I thought it would look great with the images from the Lots of Joy Christmas stamp set!

Background Basics—I started with a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Pool Party card stock for the pillow-top layer.  That was eventually mounted on a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Whisper White and adhered to a Real Red card base.

Pillow-Top Technique—To achieve the pillow-top look, you'll need the Simply Scored tool, along with the Diagonal Scoring Plate that is sold separately and fits on top. You'll simply be scoring lines in one direction, then the other, to create the pattern.

First, decide how small you want the squares to be. On this first project, I wanted the squares to be 1" wide, which translated to scoring every 1-1/4" inches. In my scoring photo above, I'm scoring every 1", which will create 3/4" wide squares.  You can see an example of that on card #2.

Pillow-Top Details—Once I was done scoring in both directions, I flipped the layer over so that the raised score lines were showing.  This subtle texture is the simple version of the technique.  I finished the look by adding tiny dabs of Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details glitter glue at each score intersection.  It takes a little while for that glue to dry, so I gave it about an hour dry time to avoid smearing.  After mounting it on the Whisper White, I wrapped some Silver Cording Trim around the layers and mounted it to the card base.

Sweet Sentiment Label—I die-cut a Lots of Labels shape from Whisper White card stock, then stamped the Lots of Joy sentiment in Real Red ink along the bottom.  The striped image, also from Lots of Joy, is stamped in Pool Party ink.  The whole label is popped up with Dimensionals.

Joyful Tree—I stamped the Lots of Joy plaid tree in Garden Green ink onto Whisper White card stock, then punched it out with the coordinating Tree Punch.  It's also popped with Dimensionals.  The tree is topped with a tiny Silver Glimmer star die-cut from the Perfect Pines Framelits and adhered with a Glue Dot.  A single Rhinestone Jewel adds sparkle.

Two Cool—I stepped up my second version by adding some ink to the Pillow-Top background on my Mint Macaron layer!

Inked Pillow-Top—I started the technique the same way as the first card, but this time, I scored 1" apart to make smaller squares.  Then, I folded on each diagonal score and added a little ink with a Sponge Dauber.  I worked fold-by-fold in one direction, then the other.

Sponge Dauber TIP—I like to color-code my Sponge Daubers to make it eliminate the possibility of contaminating my ink pads with the wrong color sponge.  I simply cut a 1/2" x 2" strip of card stock and taped it around the barrel with transparent tape.  I have one for each color!

The ink creates a little more dimension to the pillow-top look.

Sweet Sentiment—This time, I tried a different Lots of Joy sentiment in Garden Green ink, with the stripes across the label in Mint Macaron ink.

Ornament & Finishing Touches—The Lots of Joy ornament is stamped in Real Red ink and punched with the 1-1/2" Circle Punch.  The Silver Glimmer hanger was die-cut using the Delicate Ornaments Framelits and adhered with a Glue Dot.  Rather than wrapping the Silver Cording around the card, I added a simple bow to the bottom of the label.
