Thankful Garden With Love Card

I truly enjoyed creating my first full class using Blending Brushes and masks! What a fun way to add layers of color! The results are just spectacular. This class card showcases how to add three layers of colors for maximum depth and pop!

Background Basics

I started by embossing a 3-1/2″ x 4-7/8″ piece of Basic White with the Mini Corrugated Embossing Folder, then mounting it onto a 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″ piece of Basic Black cardstock. Next, I adhered a 3-1/2″ x 1″ strip of Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper in a Garden Green pattern across the bottom.

Before mounting the layers, I added some 1/8″ Fresh Freesia Faux Velvet Ribbon across the bottom, securing the ends to the back with SEAL Adhesive. It’s all mounted onto a Highland Heather card base with more SEAL.

Focal Point

I stamped the Thankful Garden flower in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Basic White cardstock. I used the Thankful Garden Masks, along with Blending Brushes, to add soft colors to the image. Starting with mask 1, I blended on some light Bubble Bath ink. Next, I used mask 2 to add some layered shading with Fresh Freesia ink. I finished the bloom with mask 3 to add Highland Heather accents.

Next, I used mask 4 and 5 to blend Garden Green ink onto the leaves and stems. I die-cut the image with the coordinating Thankful Garden Dies and popped it up with Dimensionals.

Blending Brush Tips:
  1. After inking the brush, tap the brush on the side of the mask to get off any “blob” of excess before adding to the image.
  2. Always start off the image and work toward the image to limit blotchiness.
  3. Use a light touch in a circular motion to start laying down color. Add more ink and more pressure to get darker, richer blends.
  4. You can use washi tape to keep the mask in place.
  5. Work gently around any delicate areas of the mask to prevent bending.
  6. Wash the masks under tap water and pat dry with a soft cloth.
Sweet Sentiment & Finishing Touches

I stamped the Thankful Garden sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a Basic White Nested Essentials die-cut and popped it up over the ribbon. I finished by adding a few Fresh Freesia Starburst Sequins around the flower. So, so pretty!
